What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is a 3-CD set with some of the best-known songs from the educational series that you grew up with. That being said, there's no Elmo found on these albums, just the original cast and characters from the earliest days of the show.

  • Positive messages about how it's okay to make mistakes, being a good friend, and even washing hands, among others.
  • All of the characters, with the exception of Oscar the Grouch (sometimes), display positive behavior, friendliness, and good humor.
  • Promotes 40th anniversary of the TV show.

What's the story?

In honor of the 40th anniversary of the beloved, enduring preschool TV show comes SESAME STREET: OLD SCHOOL VOL.1. This generous 3-CD set includes some of the best-known tunes from the original cast and characters that started the series. Featuring Big Bird, Bert & Ernie, Cookie Monster, Kermit the Frog, and Oscar the Grouch, among others, it's a walk down memory lane for parents, and sure entertainment for new fans (just without the modern-day loveable, red furball known as Elmo). With the voice talents of Frank Oz, Jim Henson, and Carroll Spinney (Big Bird), original artwork, and over 54 tracks combined, this set will be a valued addition to your family's collection for years to come.

Is it any good?

It's hard to believe that Sesame Street has been around for 40 years, but that's just testament to the success and timelessness of this educational show that used music and furry characters to revolutionize the way kids were taught. The music and messages are just as relatable to our kids today as they were when we were little. "Somebody Come and Play," "Rubber Duckie," and "People in Your Neighborhood" are just a few songs that everyone in the family will be able to sing along to. There's no Elmo here, so your kids might be a little disappointed at first, but one listen and those blues will be chased away by the sweet tunes from these beloved old friends.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about Sesame Street. Why do you think this show is still so popular? Is it because of Elmo? Do you like the fact that all the characters are always the same? Why do you like to watch the show? Do you think it's fun to watch a show that your parents watched when they were little kids, too?

  • Does listening to the music on the CD make you want to watch Sesame Street? Why? Is that a good or bad thing? What is your favorite song? Why? What instruments and sounds do you hear?
