Parents need to know that although two of the band members have famous Hannah Montana siblings (Trace is Miley Cyrus' half brother and Mason is Mitchel's brother) this hit single doesn't sound very Disney. The lyrics aren't particularly graphic, but the sexually suggestive lyrics describe a scene where clothes are off and excitement is elevated.
Positive messages:Discusses a boy's feelings about his girlfriend -- both hesitant ("I was thinking of places that I could hide") and eager ("your body's cold but girl we're getting so warm"). Seems to send a mixed message but is also very honest. In the music video there's a brief scene where the boys break into a theater and avoid the police, but only so all their friends can come together and dance.
Sex:Song is clearly about the physical relationship between a boy and a girl: "You're body's shaking/turn me on/so I can turn out the lights" and "You're on the bed but your clothes are lying right there" are the most graphic lines in this song.
I think its fun to listen to and dance or what ever but i think the actually Cd and Band have better songs then Shake It, which is a very good song. Alot of songs are about sex and stuff though...
I really really enjoy this band but everyone of there songs either has sex, drinking or smoking refrences (some more direct then others) and its is soooo frustrating. But overall I think this is a great song to dance to and the lyrics are a tad sensual but the video does not imply anything like that. Overall I think this is a great song but the boys need to get a grip on their hormones and write some more appropriate songs!
I think this is an okay song, just that one line may bring the wrong picture to kids who understand it. Let your kids listen to it, there bound to listen to lryics like that with most songs that are intresting to kids 10+. Maybe let your nine year old listen to this but don't encourage it. Any kid with an older sibling over 10 will listen to stuff like this. The song is okay but not the but keep it a yes to 10 over, iffy for 9 and off for 8 and under. The role models arent the best with tattoos and they drink but the song is fine.
Too Hard For Younger Kids Too Understand The Meaning For An Issue
"Shake It" is a catchy song, with some sexual undertones. Besides the "You're on the bed but your clothes are lying right there" line (to which my friend responded "They're in their PJs!"), not much of the content is obviously pertaining to a physical relationship. Most younger kids can't read into lines like, "I'll take you home, If you don't leave me at the front door" enough to understand the song's real meaning. Overall, it's a great song.
This song is totally about sex and isn't appropriate for children under 15. It talks about stripping clothes off and the "fun" that goes on in the bedroom. Not appropriate.
