common sense media says

Nick Cannon proteges cut clean but bland tune about dancing.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that "SOMETHING LIKE A PARTY" is a pretty clean song overall, revolving around the dance floor yet avoiding any questionable behavior or inappropriate language.

Positive messages: While these lyrics are a tad narcissistic ("I know you think this song is about ya / It's all about me, myself ..."), they're mostly about having harmless fun on the dance floor.
Positive role models: While the School Gyrls haven't had much chance to prove themselves yet, their actions so far have remained pretty clean.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
  • Families can talk about what new artists like the School Gyrls can do to get their careers off the ground without compromising their characters. How can a 15-year-old singer appear cool to his or her peers without delving into adult behaviors?
  • What are some of the issues that the School Gyrls might be facing as they confront their newfound fame?

What's the story?

What's the story?
"Something Like a Party" is the debut single from the School Gyrls, a trio of 15-year-old singers who were discovered by comedian (and husband of Mariah Carey) Nick Cannon. Cannon also directed the Gyrls in an hour-long movie on Nickelodeon, where they got a boost from appearances by other hot young artists like Justin Bieber and Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz. The single itself is free of questionable content -- telling the tale of a girl who calls everybody out on the dance floor, in part so they can observe her awesome (albeit clean) moves.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

In a sea full of synth-pop, it's hard for a single such as "Something Like a Party" to stand out. Britney Spears has already covered the Gyrls' schtick -- schoolgirl uniforms mixed with bubblegum pop -- while other current pop-oriented artists like Lady GaGa and Ke$ha are making more creative music.

This song made my ears shrivel up and fall off!
This song is such TOTAL CRAP that it made my ears shrivel up and fall off and caused my computer (which was playing it at the time) to made funny little beeping noises and crash on me. It took me ages to get it working again.
