I was exposed to this album through the kids I babysit, who love it! It turns out, I actually recognized Stephen from the children's band, Parachute Express, who I happily listened to as a youngster in the early 90's. In keeping with the high-quality of those old Parahute Express albums, the songs on "Songs from the Sandbox" are classic and cute, and span several musical styles. As a critical musician and music aficionado, I kinda missed hearing more real instruments (though they would have made the album much more expensive), but the arrangements were so entertaining, they made up for it! Glad to see Stephen Michael Schwartz is still at it. Pretty sure I'd recommend anything he does! He really gets kids.
