The Sound of Revenge (by Chamillionaire, Hip-hop)

common sense media says

Sexist, violent -- dull even. Sound off.

parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that the songs on this album include violent images and sound effects, including machine-gun fire. When the lyrics mention sex, women's body parts are explicitly mentioned in leering appreciation. Besides the sexist talk, the n-word and four-letter curses flow freely.

Positive messages: Sexist and racist language: the n-word is used repeatedly.
Violence: Lots of violent imagery, including repeated gunfire sound effects.
Sex: Explicit and leering appreciation of women's body parts.
Language: Every four-letter word you can think of.
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: A couple of references to crack.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about chameleons and find all the "chameleon puns" in the lyrics. What is a chameleon, and why do you think Chamillionaire likes the image so much? Why do you think he's chosen to include so much violence and racist, sexist language in his work?

What's the story?

What's the story?
If you took away the lead vocals on THE SOUND OF REVENGE, as well as the machine-gun sound effects, you'd have an album of beautifully produced instrumental tracks that would make any hip-hop artist proud. The problem with this CD from Chamillionaire is a combination of lyrics and vocal delivery. Aggressive while also sounding somehow lackluster, Chamillionaire takes a very long time to say very little. The content isn't only boring but also racist, sexist, and violent.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

The performances are monotonous; the songs all tediously long. It's too bad, because someone involved in this CD had some taste and production finesse. The instrumental tracks are wonderful -- they bubble along under Chamillionaire's unappealing vocals with energy, imagination, and passion. But unfortunately there's no redeeming social or literary value, words are used for shock value only, and the message ends up sounding both arrogant and ignorant rather than exciting or even socially conscious.

The people who listen to 50 Cent already know he has a dirty mouth. So anyone who can handle Eminem, Soulja Boy and the other rappers can definitely handle this.

As usual, good for people of any age who can handle it...
Well, I normally hate rap, but chamillionaire is a exception. I love this album, the gunshot sounds aren't a problem, and the only one with anything to worry about are No Snitchin'(not that bad), Grown and Sexy, and Southern Takeover (I love this song, but wish the f bomb was bleeped out or just plain ommitted). Other than that, it's a good album, pretty funny, and some language...as for Ridin', the drug thing is not that big a deal, as long as they know not to take any of it seriously...

Expletives such as "n-gg-r", "g-dd-mn", "sh-t", "f-ck", "-ss", "b-tch", "wh-r-", "c-ck", "d-ck", "b-st-rd", and "f-gg-t" are used repeatedly throughout the album.

what are you talking about?
chamillionair is a very talented young rapper who although he borrows a few styles from fiddy he ogives 50 cent a run for his money.the lyrics arent that brutal, sure you hear gunfire and frequent use of f-word, s**t and other profanitys but they are all tounge in cheek. if you have heard eminem, tupac, ludacris,or 50 cent you have heard it all before. if you want hardcore gangster rap you should listen to n.w.a apart from that oustanding album.

best rapper alive
ill be 14 in 2 months just so yall know that im sayin this is ok for 13 and up...they dont update your age. this is the best rapper to ever walk the earth! he has good smooth rhythms and he doesnt just rap about himself. ya niga and every other word that can be takin as offensive is in this cd but the way i see it is taking offense is a sign of immaturity so get over it. thats how he feels and if you dont like it then dont listen to it. theres some violence in Frontin.(one of the best songs on this cd) Southern Takeover is violent but its got a good beat and all dat crap and i dont mind somebody rappin about us takin over. there are however in southern takeover and some other songs gun shots/the cocking of guns. there isnt very much sexual content. the worst thing he does is call girls hos but i dont mind. this cd is not for the kiddies. i think a mature 13 year old can handle it. but the average joe should be fine at 15-16
