What parents need to know
Parents need to know that there are just a couple of questionable words in the lyrics ("ass," "hell"). Most tracks are sappy love songs, but one could be interpreted as a cautionary tale about teen suicide.
What's the story?
At first listen, Ashley Parker Angel's SOUNDTRACK TO YOUR LIFE feels clean-cut and dance-party perky. The first few tracks offer irresistibly catchy hooks supported by an impressive rhythm section -- in fact, the rhythm section is the secret star of this album, never faltering while supporting the reality-TV veteran (from the short-lived boy band O-Town) as he delivers one credible hair-tossing lead vocal after another. First listens can deceive, though, and Soundtrack to Your Life ends up offering just a little more than you'd expect, in every direction. For one thing, this clean-cut kid knows a four-letter word or two, and there are just a couple thrown into the mix, though the lyrics overall are far tamer than those on most pop CDs.
Is it any good?
Lyrics that at first seem to be about pretty much nothing end up imparting an occasional message of substance, as in "Shades of Blue," a song that appears to be a cautionary tale about a lonely teenager's suicide. Most of the songs sport sappy, love-struck lyrics that work anyway. Ashley's vocals are accomplished and present -- he sounds like he had a wonderful time making this album. And then there's that steal-the-show rhythm section.
What families can talk about
Families can talk about metaphor in song lyrics. Is there a deeper meaning here, or should the lyrics be taken at face value? They can also talk about the fact that an MTV show helped promote this CD -- would the CD have done as well without the TV tie-in?

Yeahhh i pretty much thought most of the songs were great.
You have to listen to it.
And like most songs of today, it doesn't have bad language or anything.
