What parents need to know

What's the story?

Rebecca Frezza, former singer/actor/dancer with Broadway aspirations, has found her niche as a lively children's music performer and movement advocate with videos on PBS Kids and Noggin, and a series of appealing music CDs. SPECIAL KIND OF DAY keeps the party rolling with the big sound provided by Rebecca's lively seven-piece band, and her own friendly vocals.

Is it any good?

Frezza's strength lies in her ability to corral her capable band into a variety of musical arrangements and personalities. They gamely venture into jazz and world-music territory, but seem most comfortable when nestled into their comfy country-rock role. Highlights are the first two tracks, "Come on Out," a song that will appeal to little kids who like to identify animals, and "Clack-Ity-Clack" with its irresistible chugging train beat.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about "Summer Sunshine," "Leaves Are Falling," and "Snow Day." How does Rebecca make a song sound like summer, fall, or winter? What holiday do you think "Spooky Dance" is about? "Birthday Song" is about celebrating your own special day. Can you write your own original birthday song?
