What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about the meaningful lyrics, perhaps sparking a discussion about the personal vs. the political. What's the message here? What does it mean to you?

What's the story?

What's the story?
STAND UP, from the Dave Matthews Band, is interesting and original. The interplay of complex, infectious rhythm tracks with politically provocative lyrics makes for an irresistible album. After Some Devil, Matthews' accomplished solo effort, it's refreshing to hear the group's chemistry in action again. Though Matthews is front man and star of the show, he knows how to share the spotlight with his band mates, who all stand up to the task at hand. The South African front man/guitarist delivers his vocals with passion and versatility, veering from a soft, intimate whisper ("Out of My Hands") to visceral, raw energy ("Louisiana Bayou"). An included DVD component made possible by "dual disc" technology offers a behind-the-scenes look at the band's recording process that will delight aspiring musicians.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Lyrics are interesting, poetic, personal, and political. Combined with beautifully performed instrumentals and exquisite production, this is an album on which the whole is even greater than the sum of its excellent parts.
