Strawberry Shortcake: Rockaberry Roll
What’s the Story?
ROCKABERRY ROLL, the soundtrack for the same-named DVD, is proof that the endearing world of Strawberry Shortcake and her friends is as schmaltzy (and upbeat) as ever. Ms. Shortcake is one of the better role models for young kids, since she's never worried about what she looks like or what she's wearing, and she cares deeply about her friends and maintaining happy relationships.
Is It Any Good?
Positive lessons abound in this collection of songs. Lyrics like "It took a lotta love, they had to keep the pace, but they made it cuz their hearts were in the right place" and "so don't try to win unfairly, that is not the thing to do, it may hurt your buddies barley, but it's really hurting you" grace the entire 17-track CD. While these "doses" may be syrupy and sentimental, they're just for the preschool crowd.
Cute standouts are "The Gettin' Better Boogie Woogie" and "Fun for Fun's Sake" for their ability to make kids want to get up and dance. To round out the collection, two Spanish-language songs -- "Bailando Asi (The Strawberry Shake)" and an alternate version of the Strawberry Shortcake theme -- make their debut.
