What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this album features lots of favorites from the popular children's TV show Thomas the Tank Engine. There are lots of positive messages about being patient, always doing your best, and the importance of trying new things. Like the show, the content is fine for young kids and features different kinds of music to keep their interest.

  • There's not necessarily a lot of educational value per se, but there are a few lessons. "Harold" teaches a little spelling: "F is for friendship and flying and free, G is for good as good friends ought to be, what's after G and comes before I?, H is for Harold way up in the sky."
  • "Doing it Right" is a song about always trying your best. "Patience" teaches kids a worthwhile virtue: "be as patient as can be, don't get too excited." "Old and New" encourages kids to try new things saying, "for everything familiar, there's always something new."
  • Trains on Thomas show kids how to be kind, responsible, and honest.
  • Not applicable.

What's the story?

THOMAS AND FRIENDS: ALL-STAR TRACKS is a compilation of 17 familiar songs from the children's show Thomas the Tank EngineIt includes songs from the DVDs Misty Island Rescue and Day of the Diesels and well-known tunes featured in the show. Songs range from the classic Thomas sound, which features children's voices, to a little bit of rock and country.

Is it any good?

Preschoolers who love watching Thomas and his train friends chugging through their many adventures on Sodor Island will love the songs on Thomas and Friends: All-Star Tracks. From "Roll Call" to "What Makes an Engine Happy," the songs are familiar and fun, featuring train sounds and images of their favorite friendly trains. "Sir Topham Hat Song" is a bluesy ode to the man in the black hat, and "Misty Island Rescue" brings a little country sound into the mix. Thomas and his useful crew continue to delight little engineers and imaginations everywhere, and this album doesn't disappoint.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the lasting popularity of the Thomas the Tank Engine brand and TV show. What do you think makes this show so popular? Do you think it's the show or the toys and products that go along with it that kids really love?

  • Does it make you like a TV show or movie more if you can have toys from it?

  • The song "Old and New" talks about trying something new. Have you ever been afraid to try something that you had never done before? Give examples. How did you feel after you tried it? How did you feel if you didn't?
