The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Soundtrack (by Various Artists, Rock)

common sense media says

Brooding indie tunes OK for kids too young for the movie.

parents & educators say
  • 80% say sexual content is an issue
  • 40% say there are positive role models

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that when compared to the Twilight movies, this soundtrack is very tame. Aside from a couple of stark lines about death and some fairly intense expressions of love, the lyrics steer clear of adult content. They contain absolutely no swearing and avoid sexual descriptions or references to substance use.

Positive messages: While none of the songs are bright and cheery, most deal honestly with feelings -- an approach that will be well-received by young fans who are attempting to do the same with their many new emotions.
Positive role models: This album is filled with artists who largely stay out of the tabloids and remain drama-free.
Violence: Nothing too graphic, though some talk of death and bleak imagery; for example, "I was a heavy heart to carry, my feet dragged across the ground / And he took me to the river where he slowly let me drown."
Sex: Not applicable.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
  • Families can talk about how it feels when a book is made into a movie, and scenes that were previously up to your imagination now have real faces, music, and other tangible items associated with them. Does the music in the Eclipse soundtrack measure up to how you pictured it in your mind? Why or why not?

  • What other songs might have matched up well with the Eclipse storyline?

What's the story?

What's the story?

The most famous young love triangle in the world continues with THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third installment in both the book and movie phenomenon. Like the soundtrack for the second installment, New Moon, the Eclipse soundtrack is filled with more than a dozen tunes by various indie artists -- most of whom (besides the band Muse) haven't appeared on a Twilight soundtrack before. Also in the same spirit as before, the Eclipse music collection is largely innocuous: it lacks profanity and descriptions of sex or substance use. While they'll want to watch out for the brooding, melancholic tone and the smattering of references to dying, parents should feel OK about buying this soundtrack for their teens or even tweens.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Anyone who didn't know better might think this exceptional soundtrack is meant to appeal to adults. Acclaimed indie acts like Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses, Sia, and The Dead Weather contribute super-solid songs that the producers compiled into an excellent flow. Teens and tweens who pick up this record will not only be connecting themselves to one more piece of the Twilight experience, but they'll also be furthering their musical educations -- for the better.

Muse is awesome on this soundtrack
WAIT! HOLD UP.did some one just say Muse sings MEET ME ON THE EQUINOX?! That song is actually by deathcab for cutie. Muse plays I belong to you on the new moon track and the play movie's title song "Neutron Star Collision(Love is Forever)"I just wanted to make that clear because Muse sounds nothing like death cab for cutie.I totally love Muse though its the only reason I buy the twilight soundtracks

The Books and Flims May Be Bad, But the Soundtrack is Great!
First off, let me say that I DO NOT like the Twilight franchise at all. I think the books and films are terrible. However, my mother dragged me with her to Eclipse at the theater, and I found myself loving the music from the film. There were several songs by artists that I was familiar with and considered myself a fan of, such as Florence + the Machine and The Black Keys. Also, I hadn't heard of The Dead Weather before, but I loved their song on here, and I'm totally into them now.
