What parents need to know

Parents need to know that there is some sexual innuendo, a bit of gleefully confrontational language, and a few references to drinking.

  • Not applicable.
  • One or two cartoon-ish "wanna take it outside?" references; no real violence.
  • A bit of coy sexual innuendo.

What's the story?

Teen angst rules the day on on FROM UNDER THE CORK TREE. Cleverly named tunes include "Ur Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued," "I've Got A Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth," "Champagne For My Real Friends, Real Pain for My Sham Friends," and "I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me." However, most of Fall Out Boy's wit ends up in the names, rather than the lyrics, of their songs. So you don't get brilliant poetic barbs; you do get plenty of pleasant, accessible rock & roll, with the added bonus of an exceptional rhythm section.

Is it any good?

Lead singer Patrick Stump's vocals are infused with punk-pop energy, but can get soulful on the more melodic tracks too. By turns acerbic, goofy, and emotional, Fall Out Boy delivers 13 friendly tracks that are sure to be crowd-pleasers. So they don't quite live up to the promise of their titles -- the terrific all-out performances and a genuine sense of fun save the day.

The album that shot them to fame
An awesome album. Parents may be concerned that pretty much every song references sex in some way, but the band is supposed to be aimed at teenagers who can handle it. (Nine-year-olds who only like the singles really shouldn't be going to their concerts.) Violence is mostly metaphorical like "make them dance like we were shooting their feet" and "7 Minutes in Heaven (Atavan Halen)" is figuritive for Wentz's suicide attempt. Yeah, there are drinking references in the songs, but the band is in their twenties, what do you expect? This is a great taste of the old Fall Out Boy.

Fall Out Boy is a good band; Wentz's lyrics are second to none. The one concern I would have on this album would be the breakout single, "Sugar, We're Goin Down," which alludes to homosexuality ("sleeping for the wrong team") in its story of a girl who falls in love with a gay friend and pines for him. Nevertheless, the band's positive far outweighs the negative; they're a talented alternative for kids (or parents) who don't like the Jonas Brothers.

FOB iz awzome!! (Fall Out Boy is awsome!)
I loved this cd! Some of their other albums is not as good, but I did like this one. A lot of it seems to be more about getting a girl. Or I wonder if she likes me kind of stuff. I didn't realy pay attention to the lyics, but I did like the music.

Easy to listen to and easy to sing. Not the best album technically but melodic and perfect for singing in the car or shower.

My Favorite Fall Out Boy Album
I really love this album. The songs are great, and I've memorized several of them. My favorite song on the album is "Sugar We're Going Down." If you're into the alternative genre of music, you should definitely listen to Fall Out Boy.

A Great CD
This CD rocks. Although the song titles may make parents think (Especially "Of All The Gin Joints in the World" and "I Slept Wit Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I got was this stupid song named after me") they are purely for humor and the song has nothing to do with it. There are some refrences to sex, but mildly. THIS CD ROCKS!!!!!Good music! Rock on fall out boy.
