What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this isn't a typical Christmas album; there are some classics like "The Christmas Song" and "All I Want for Christmas," but the others are mostly songs about a relationship between two people that happens to fall during the holidays. If you're OK with relationship talk mixed with mistletoe and snowfall, then this Justin Bieber CD is OK for your kids.

  • Meant to entertain rather than educate; still, kids will learn some classic holiday songs.
  • Songs remind us about the important things that make the holidays warmer: love, family, and friendships.
  • Songs encourage listeners to appreciate the things that matter: "I don't need no presents, girl, you're all I need."
  • Not applicable.

What's the story?

Just in time for the yuletide season, Beliebers get their Christmas wish with UNDER THE MISTLETOE, the debut holiday album from teen sensation Justin Bieber. The 11 tracks include classics like "The Christmas Song," "All I Want for Christmas" (with Mariah Carey), "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town," and "Silent Night," as well as several originals that feature guests Busta Rhymes, Boyz II Men, and The Band Perry.

Is it any good?

For Bieber fans having a hard time waiting between albums, the Christmas-themed Under the Mistletoe will tide them over until the next release. The holiday classics will appeal to any age; the original tracks, including the lead single "Mistletoe," are probably best for young fans only. Bieber is certainly trying to make his merry mark here, but the Busta Rhymes duet "The Little Drummer Boy" might have some questioning what's in his eggnog given the strange raps within the song. But covers of favorites like "Silent Night," "The Christmas Song," and "All I Want for Christmas" make this album a good choice for families at the holidays.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the songs that are familiar and the ones that are new. Which do you like better? Do you think these Christmas songs are ones that you and your family will listen to for a long time?

  • Why do you think it's become so popular for contemporary pop, country, or rock artists to make a holiday album? What makes holiday music so appealing?

Amazing (:
I'm a Belieber all the way, and love all of Justin Bieber's songs, but I have to say this album is great. Mistletoe is so cute, and I love Home This Christmas, but all the songs are good. There's something for everyone on this CD, from the sweet, slow, Silent Night, to the up-beat rap of Drummer Boy. I would totally recommend this to any Belieber, and even if you aren't a big fan, I'd still say give it a try. (:

Sweet, clean, and NOT EXPLICIT, LIARS!
I can't understand the people who say that it contains explicit content. First of all, it doesn't, second, if you really though that it did don't let your kids watch Barney, because that might be a little intense for them if this is. Oh, come on, a lot of people don't like Justin Bieber, but lying on a website that effects others is rude and immature. Personally, though I don't like Justin's music, I think that he's a very nice, supportive, good person. Not that bad of a role model. I know he'd never release anything inappropriate, so I hope that the people who read you liar's reviews knows that. Upon viewing this page, I just couldn't believe it....

Better than expected
This song is better than I expected. JB brings a soft and melodic tune, with little use of auto-tune. This song's attempt of becoming a permanent Christmas "carol" was successful. It slightly resembles Jason Mraz's, "I'm Yours". This lyrics are clean, and it will be guaranteed to be stuck in your head all day.
