"Wake Up" (CD single) (by Sliimy, Adult Contemporary)

WAKE UP is the new single from French pop singer Sliimy -- a French slang word for "skinny," in a nod to the artist's waif-like physique. The track includes a lot of silly, nonsensical lyrics loosely centered around a theme of allowing yourself to experience all the fun of being a kid -- even if you're no longer one. For example, "I'm kinda lazy, you're in a hurry, you scare me, now I'm well aware of this / You talk about business, it's an illness, what I mean / You must dream a little bit, like me." Though the lighthearted song sounds like a kids' tune, the singer has attracted the attention of decidedly adult pop stars like Katy Perry and Britney Spears, opening for both artists on their recent tours. Nevertheless, a fun, claymation-like video for the song is currently running on ZuiTube.

It's easy to see why this song would appeal to kids as well as grown-ups like Britney Spears and Katy Perry: the tune has a cheery synthesizer tone that draws kids in but also sounds similar to some of the other adult alterna-pop music that's come out of France from bands like Tahiti 80. Still, it's a bit too cutesy to go very far on the mainstream adult charts, with some circus-like sections that will likely be too much of a stretch for anyone other than young children.
