Why We Rated This on for Ages 5 and Up

The good stuff

  • Messages:

The message of this song -- that you should try to enjoy yourself and not take everything so seriously -- is positive one for "kids" of any age.
  • Role models:

The verdict's still out on whether Sliimy will make a good role model: his debut song is clean, but his stints on the Britney Spears and Katy Perry tours leave the question open-ended. In this song, he portrays himself as a positive role model for slowing down and enjoying life.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About "Wake Up" (CD single)

Parents need to know that while this song is largely innocuous, it does include a few more grown-up words like "loathsome," "bitter," and "sucker" that kids may inquire about.

I rate this title iffy for age 6 and give it 2.0

Not a bad song, but the album is not child appropriate.

Be cautious - the rest of this album is quite inappropriate.
