What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this album encourages children to sing and play along with the songs. Many songs also help young kids' language development: "Bucket of Dew/ Paddy Condon From Cobar" and "Havenu Shalom Alechem" help budding vocal dexterity by incorporating possibly unfamiliar syllables into a musical context.

What's the story?

The Wiggles, one of Australia's most popular performing groups, dedicate themselves to providing quality musical entertainment for young children. WAKE UP JEFF combines traditional pieces ("A Frog Went a Walking," "Pipers Waltz") with original songs by the Wiggles.

Is it any good?

Wake Up Jeff is a terrific collection of songs and poems. All of the numbers are presented clearly and with obvious enthusiasm by the four band members. Both vocals and musicianship are of consistently high quality, and the lyrics to all songs are provided in the accompanying booklet.

Many songs encourage active participation. Whether they're imagining a beach scene ("Take a Trip Out on the Sea") or physically joining in with clapping and other gestures ("Name Game," "I Can Do So Many Things"), children enjoy the music because they're constantly involved in the songs.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about make-believe and storytelling. Whether they're creating an underwater world ("Henry's Underwater Big Band") or playing pirates ("Bing Bang Bong"), the Wiggles challenge children to use their imagination.
