What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this compilation CD is Ralph's first album on mega-label Disney, and hosts 14 out of 15 songs that come from his past CDs. The cheerful recording of one of preschoolers' favorite musicians is chock full of positive messages (the importance of self-esteem), imagination (surfing in your own bedroom), and great music. This album also comes with a DVD of six animated music videos.

What's the story?

WELCOME TO RALPH'S WORLD is a collection of catchy, nutty songs that includes 14 favorites and only one previously unreleased song, "With a Friend (The Pooh Song)," which Ralph wrote to celebrate Winnie the Pooh's 80th birthday. So if you own other Ralph CDs, chances are you already have some, if not all, of these songs. Many of these fast-paced songs reinforce the importance of self-esteem, such as "The Mighty Worm" ("Everyone does what they do best, the best") and "Fee Fi Fo Fum" ("It doesn't matter what you look like, if you got some FeeFi Fo Fum/and everybody's got some"). Six included videos, by well-respected illustrator/author Jim Paillot, mix live action with animation, taking kids and parents on a visually magical musical tour.

Is it any good?

The tunes cover a variety of genres -- from rock to folk -- and encourage kids to use their imagination. When we enter Ralph's world, we play with pet dinosaurs, swim with mermaids, transform into a puppy, eat as much pie as we want, and surf in our own bedroom.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about if they'd like to live in Ralph's world. If so, what are your favorite things about his world? What are some things in Ralph's world that we might see in our world? What things are just pretend? Families can also chat about the difference between listening to a song and watching a video of one. Do you picture the same things you see in the video, or does your imagination see different things?

Ralph's World is DA BOMB!
We've loved Ralph since my husband got an MP3 player that came with Under the Sea pre-loaded on it. We have several CDs and have been to two concerts. His music is fun and family friendly and has plenty in it for adults. When an illness prevented my husband and I from taking our 6 yo son to a recent concert, we enlisted a childless family friend who loved it so much she bought several CDs to add to her "house music" collection.

Great family music with cool rock riffs, smart lyrics
Fun, upbeat, family music! Ralph was teaching music class to little kids and their families at the revered, legendery Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. He figured out that he could create music that was as good, or better, than much of what's out there. his music is sometimes irreverent, but most hipster parents will actully like that. His songs capture the fun and frustration of childhood without being condescending. Not syrupy sweet. Sometimes he riffs off popular rock tunes, and that's cool, too! Ralph's World is great in concert, too. Highly recommended.
