Parents need to know that this CD brings a hip-hop spin to Christmas favorites such as "Jingle Bells" and "Silent Night" -- and has some original tunes as well. The lyrics of all 13 songs are squeaky clean with a fun, urban flavor for all ages.
YO, IT'S CHRISTMAS, the debut album of Yo Yo Yo Kids, will be stuck in your head long after ol' St. Nick has come to town. The original "Trick out the Tree" boasts some lyrics that will have you bringing out the eggnog: "Makin'cookies, hot chocolate/don't eat the candy canes/trick out the tree with the family/the living room is the place to be/now we having fun with the whole family." Go ahead, you can say it ...Awww.
The 13 kid-friendly, hip-hop tracks are catchy, albeit a bit repetitive, but full of holiday traditions that are clean and fun. Tracks like "Deck the Halls" can put the whole family in the mood to trim the tree with its bouncy, upbeat sound.
Families can talk about how consumerism has affected Christmas. "Snap with It," says "My nanny gave to me a Dooney & Bourke bag and toys for the tree/a locket for my pocket and Nintendo Wii." Are we too focused on the bling we get for Christmas? What traditions do -- or could -- your family have during the holidays that don't necessarily include money?
