What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this CD is full of fun music -- some familiar and some new -- that will encourage kids to sing and get moving. There's quite a variety of tunes and instruments used from different parts of the world so it'll also help expose kids to some music beyond the standard Disney fare.

  • Only the word "died" and "Lord" which some might want to know: "Washed his face in a fryin' pan.../Died with a toothache in his head" and "And oh my lord how the ashes flew."
  • There's an accompanying DVD.

What's the story?

The worldwide success of kid entertainers The Wiggles continues with their latest CD, YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE DANCING. It's full of 18 tracks from around the world that are sure to get you and your tots moving. Leo Sayer has re-recorded his worldwide smash hit "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" with the fun foursome, and country music superstar Troy Cassar-Daley joins The Wiggles in some guitar-picking country croons "Old Dan Tucker" and "The Turkey in the Straw."

Is it any good?

The Wiggles aren't just grown menfolk in brightly colored suits. They actually met while studying early childhood education, so there's a method behind the musical merrymaking madness. Kids learn through music and movement on You Make Me Feel Like Dancing with arrangements and instruments from around the globe that teach counting, body parts, turkey talk, and even a little Greek and Spanish. The CD has some nice instrumental pieces from Vienna, Sweden, and one titled "Country Garden" that are a welcomed break from the childish hullabaloo, and also allow your kids to develop an appreciation for music. Whether it's a hot summer day or a cold winter one, it's a good way to get your little ones moving while indoors, and with funny tracks like "Turkey in the Straw" and "Knickerbocker," they'll be excited to do so.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about the popularity and success of The Wiggles. Given the fact that they started as early childhood educators, do you think it justifies their success? Obviously kids like them, but why do you think parents seem to approve as well?
