Absurdist, dark animated cop dramedy; NOT for kids.

Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 16–18

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Nothing redeeming here, though it's completely tongue-in-cheek. Lots of toilet humor (no surprise there), and poor treatment of female characters.
  • Violence:

Frequent gunfire with blood spraying or pooling -- in an exaggerated, comic (and animated) manner.
  • Sex:

Animated, jokey groping scene between naked adults. Breast-fondling visible. Sounds of and shadowed views of a sexual act. The main character is a naked butt. Prostitutes feature prominently in the show.
  • Language:

"Ass", obviously, as well as plenty of other expletives. Harsher curse words, like "f--k," are bleeped but obvious.
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

The main character seems constantly drunk and often has beer bottles around him. He also mentions needing "a stiff drink."

What Parents Need to Know

About Assy McGee

Parents need to know that this animated series (part of the Cartoon Network's late-night Adult Swim lineup) is for very mature teens and adults only. The main character is a naked butt with a drinking problem who, as a renegade detective, shoots his gun with abandon. Scenes include naked, groping adults and visible breast-fondling. Viewers also hear an explicit sex scene and see it in shadows. Blood flows freely, though in animated form, and dark subject matter -- like the murder of a prostitute -- is the subject of the comedy. Crass language is frequent.

    Assy McGee is Crappy!

The title of the show tells it all--its about a naked ass. The show is crude, misogynistic and bloody but that's not the problem. Its not very smart or clever or even funny. In fact, I've watched it twice and was just irritated about wasting time I could have used better to poke my eye with a drink parasol. I don't think anyone will turn into a serial killer if they watch Assy McGee, and I certainly don't believe in censorship, but I can't imagine wasting any more time on this show. Its greatest crime is that...its lame.

    Nudity? Yuck!

This show is indeed not funny, and I hate the language, sex, violence, and nudity. Only for older teens.
