Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 14–18

The good stuff

  • Messages:

Brooke lives on her own but remains connected to her family. The show includes discussions about her parents' contentious divorce and her brother's legal problems. Brooke's friend/roommate Glenn is gay.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

Brooke's dad supplies her with various self-defense mechanisms (tasers, mace, etc.) and discusses how they can keep her safe.
  • Sex:

Lots of young women and men in skimpy bathing suits. Hugging and kissing are sometimes visible; there's also some stronger sexual innuendo. Brooke and Glenn discuss looking for "hot" guys. Hulk Hogan makes references to "erections" and catching venereal diseases (but within the context of avoiding them).
  • Language:

Mild; words like "hell" and "damn" are used occasionally.
  • Consumerism:

The interiors of stores like Target are sometimes visible during shopping sprees. Brooke's music is heard occasionally.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

Alcohol consumption (including underage drinking) is sometimes visible.

What Parents Need to Know

About Brooke Knows Best

Parents need to know that this Hogan Knows Best spin-off follows Hulk Hogan's daughter Brooke as she strikes out on her own. Unlike the original series, this show focuses specifically on Brooke's life, rather than the family's interactions -- though there are discussions about her parents' very public divorce and her brother's legal problems. Expect lots of bikini-clad young women, some sexual innuendo (including references to gay sex), some mild language ("hell," "damn"), and some pretty wild parties (including underage drinking).

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the popularity of "real-life" family TV shows. What makes a family entertaining enough for television? Do you think the families featured on these shows act the same way when the cameras aren't there? Families can also discuss what happens when an apparently "perfect" reality show family seems to fall apart. Should these problems become entertainment for others? How have things changed for the Hogans since Hogan Knows Best?

    My concerns are:
    • Inappropriate sexual content

This show is great, but gets kinda racy.

I luv this show, but one of the characters is gay(and it is often spoken of) and sometimes the talk about it can get a bit innappropirate. In one episode, Brooke, her friend, and her mom take a pole dancing class.

    Pathetic Beyond Belief

Petty, amoral, shallow, self-centered, clownish, intellectually-challenged, unrealistic, humorless, cloying: these and a hundred other negative qualities that apply to the Hogan family also apply to this pathetic show. But what else would one expect from these almost sub-human spotlight-obsessed boobs? What is more shocking is that VH-1 thought anybody would find this interesting or of any value. Even my kids think the Hogans are pathetic beyond belief, and think VH-1's embrace of them says a lot about the horribly low programming talent they have on hand. Wise up! This show stinks!

    Stupid AND Boring

Just more crud from a family now famous for offering low-brow entertainment. Don't let young kids watch this; the heavy sexual content (in fact, it seems to be the main purpose of the show) is inappropriate for youngsters. Middle aged kids will be a little confused, older teens bored, and neither entertained. The Hogans should be shown the door, professionally, personally, and possibly biologically.
