Why We Rated This on for Ages 10 and Up

The good stuff

  • Messages:

Offers positive messages about family and parenthood. Deion and Pilar sometimes appear to be competing with each other, but it's in good fun. The Sanders family lives an upper-class lifestyle, but they're down-to-earth. The couple is very involved with a variety of charitable organizations. The cast is primarily African-American. One of Deion's colleagues/friends is gay.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

Mild references to "kicking butt." Deion makes subtle (but humorous) threats to his eldest daughter's dates. Pilar makes a reference to Lorena Bobbitt during one exchange with Deion.
  • Sex:

Some mild sexual innuendo, including references to "stripper" and "booty." Deion expresses concern about his eldest daughter's clothes being "too sexy" and makes sure that she's dressed appropriately.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

The Sanders family enjoys the luxury that comes with their wealth, but they don't gloat about it or go overboard. Occasional references to the various venues where Deion makes appearances, including specific radio stations and morning shows. There are continual references to football and baseball teams and various well-known athletes.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love

Parents need to know that this "celebreality" show -- which highlights the day-to-day challenges that former pro athlete Deion Sanders and his wife Pilar face as they juggle their home life and their careers -- is refreshingly tween-friendly, offering positive messages about parenthood and family. Although the series' content is pretty tame overall, there are some very mild sexual references (including references to "strippers" and "booty"), light-hearted arguments, and references to venues where Deion makes celebrity appearances.

    I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

This is what family is all about. A few years ago I didn't really care for Deion but I realized that I was just going off of what the media would say about him. He is so down to earth and funny. He and Pilar are great together and they have a beautiful family! Even the kids are funny. They put Real in Reality!! I give this show two thumbs up.
