Campy nighttime soap models sex, greed, deception.

Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 15–18

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Soap opera characters are rarely models of good behavior, and these folks are no exception. They're competitive, jealous backstabbers who think nothing of betraying someone if it furthers their own ends. Adultery, scheming, and other nasty behavior is common.
  • Violence:

No explicit violence, but in one episode, a gun in a glove compartment is shown, foreshadowing what's to come.
  • Sex:

Sexual situations in which nudity is implied. One character is blackmailed into having a sexual relationship with a man she owes money to. Characters are constantly having affairs and hook-ups.
  • Language:

    Relatively mild: "bitch," "ass," etc.
  • Consumerism:

A Maybelline makeup trunk is shown in a fashion show scene. Overall, the characters (who are all involved in the world of high fashion) are very materialistic.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Social drinking.

What Parents Need to Know

About Fashion House

Parents need to know that while the subject matter of this nighttime soap opera -- models and fashion design -- might attract teens' attention, the storylines aren't meant for young viewers. The various plots include a wife dealing with her husband's adultery (as well as other characters indulging in affairs and hook-ups, many of which are motivated by anything but affection), a desperate executive pimping herself to a debtor, and aspiring models willing to do whatever it takes to rise to the top of the industry. It's campy and over the top, but it's still pretty mature content.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about ambition. Why do some people cheat to get ahead? Why doesn't everyone just take the easy road to success? Are any of the characters in this show admirable in any way? Why or why not? Families can also talk about the telenovela format in general. How is this show similar to and different from the hugely popular Spanish telenovelas? Do you think it's going to catch on the way those shows do?

The Only soap opera i've ever liked

I started watching this show i think about the second time it appeared on tv. The show grabbed my attention from the start! It as so many juicy parts that leave me wanting for more. In this show it as so many elements of things that happen in real life. Although in real life it is not as dramtic, it is still extremely interesting to see what they would do next. I told all my friends about this show and they love it. I think this show is approiate for kids 14 an older, due to the fact that there is alot of sexual things oocuring and drinking is involved. I think in order to watch this show, you have to understand the difference between right and wrong and what you will or will not do.

The Return of the True Primetime Drama

I think Fashion House is great. It has all the elements of the late 80's early 90's Aaron Spelling primetime soaps that made Melrose Place and Beverly Hills such wonderful shows. It's the return to the camp, the cat fights and the divas (Morgan and Bo) that we desperately need! You might call it corny, some may call it terrible, but it's just a fun show with great icons and a wonderful primetime soap to sink into after the absence of the great primetime Dramas. Take it for what it is, have fun with it, and let the slapping begin!
