Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 12–15

The good stuff

  • Messages:

The team works together to defeat enemies, though InuYasha is a hothead who needs help controlling his temper. Strong female characters, including Kagome, who is a reincarnated priestess.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

Swordplay and magic are used for violence, but there's no notable bloodshed.
  • Sex:

Kagome has a bit of a crush on InuYasha, which sometimes leads to some angst and drama. Some characters are flirty and suggestive, and later episodes include some animated partial nudity.
  • Language:

    "Damn," "bastard," "hell," "crap," etc.
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About InuYasha

Parents need to know that although some episodes of this fantasy-themed anime are tween-friendly, there is a fair amount of fighting, mostly between different species of demon. While older kids should be fine with it, younger kids could get a little scared. Other than that, there's a bit of salty language (of the "damn," "bastard," and "crap" variety), some innuendo and partial nudity in later episodes (nothing overly graphic), and one of the main characters has a nasty temper -- but teamwork usually rules the day.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about what this show has in common with other anime series -- and what sets it apart. What makes it more kid-friendly than other anime shows? What makes it a fantasy? What are the main differences between fantasy and science fiction genres? Families can also discuss what it means to work together as a team. What happens when one member of a team loses patience and strikes out on their own? How does that affect the rest of the team?

InuYasha is fine for anyone 11 and up. It doesnt have anything that bad besides language and mild violence. I watched it when I was about 10-11 and it was fine.

    My Second Anime

There are some nude scenes, and there is profanity. The characters are the good guys. Though they have their faults, what human (demon) doesn't? They fight for good, and to make their ambitions reality. That's enough of a good role model for me.

Anyone that's like a pre-teen or a tween can watch it.

I love this show, but it can be inappropriate. There's suggestive themes, partial nudity, cursing (a lot of it), and violence. Overall, it's still the best show I've ever watched! I recommend it!

  4. I rate this title on for age 12 and give it 3.0

Not the greatest anime in the world, but still good.

This is another anime I used to watch when I was 12. I know there are still teens my age (and older than me) who still like this show, but I think it's best for kids 12-13 years old. This isn't a kid's anime since there is plenty of action violence, a little bit of mild cussing, and a pervert. Like Naruto this show is really long and repetitive, so it can be a little boring at times. But the characters are lovable (especially Shippou) and it has a decent plot and some good action. Fine for kids 12+, and iffy for kids 8-11. Highly recommended as a first anime.
