Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that this show is stereotypical in every aspect: overly bright protagonist, wacky friends, annoying enemies, happy resolutions. There's nothing terrible here, but nothing new, either. Sadie is more or less the same as every other teen girl with her own TV show, but brings nothing new to the table.
Families who watch this show can talk about how Sadie solves her problems. Parents may want to point out that in real life most real problems aren't wrapped up so neatly.
Common Sense Review
Reviewed By: Sarah Wenk
Sadie Hawthorne (Charlotte Arnold) is a typical teen TV show heroine: perfect hair, perfect skin, really smart, minor irritations at home (annoying older brother), wacky friends at school. The show's only attempt at being different is Sadie's occasional speeches directly into the camera, in which she draws parallels between what's going on in her life and things she's learned about the natural world. The obnoxious captain of the quiz bowl team, for example, sees himself as an alpha dog, and must be dealt with as such.
But it's all so formulaic and has been done so often already, that the show doesn't feel interesting -- it's just a rehash of the classic elements of teen TV, without any real freshness or fun. Tween girls may find the show entertaining, but not more so than any number of other shows they've already seen.
