What Parents Need to Know
About Ni Hao, Kai-lan
Parents need to know that preschoolers will be drawn to this well-rounded cartoon that exposes kids to the basics of the Mandarin language and Chinese culture. Kids will easily relate to the stories of 5-year-old Kai-lan and her friends, and they'll learn constructive ways of handling social-emotional issues like fear, sharing, and jealousy. Song, dance, and plenty of interactivity add to this entirely kid-friendly package, and parents can feel good about both its educational quality and positive lessons.

Families Can Talk About
- Families can talk about dealing with emotions and working out problems with friends. Kids: Have you ever felt the way Kai-lan and her friends did? What did you think about how they handled their issue? Could you try that the next time you're in a similar situation? Families can also discuss their own cultural heritage and how it compares to Kai-lan's.

Empathy Education
This show is along the same vein as Dora in terms of it's presentational style. What really sets it apart is the emphasis on learning to be aware of the feelings and perspectives of others. The integration of Chinese words in nice, but unlike the Spanish in Dora it is harder to practice this with the kids because I'm learning for the first time in the episode with them.

Great for 4 and up, not so great for younger ones.
Kai-lan is GREAT! Her friends who exhibit the bad behaviour...not so great. My 2 year old constantly comes away with the bad behaviour instead of the corrected behaviour!

Good show for young ones!
It helps teach a different language. It is a positive show, not too keen on the bad attitudes some have, but it does show how to solve the problem.

Great for kids.
My son loves this show. I like that it helps teach him Chinese, he loves going to the restaurants and trying to talk to them :). He also likes helping trying to figure out problems. I am not to down on the attitudes they have sometimes cause all children go through that and they show them how to handle it correctly.
