What to watch out for

  • Messages:

    The show has a complicated message -- the main character is sympathetic, appealing, and a criminal who is capable of murder.

  • Violence:

    Guns kill; some blood; some torture; fist-fighting; violent car crash. Teen character witnesses some violence.

  • Sex:

    Some sexual tension; a teen girl pushes away her aggressive boyfriend.

  • Language:

    Plenty of adult language used casually -- "s--t," "bitch," and more.

  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.

  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Main character drinks when under pressure. Teen is offered pot. Minor character snorts cocaine.
 

What Parents Need to Know

About Thief

Parents need to know that this edgy cable crime drama has it all: drug use, murder, adult language. The series' primary characters are criminals, and, in many cases, they carry out criminal acts as if they were normal business activities. The characters are mostly likeable and therefore the show creates sympathy for the criminals and glamorizes crime (to a certain extent).
