Why We Rated This on for Ages 3 and Up

The good stuff

  • Educational value:

The series exposes preschoolers to various forms of dance and music, including ballet, ethnic, and modern styles.
  • Messages:

Angelina learns important life lessons in each episode, and the stories promote positive messages about friendship, hard work, problem solving, and cooperation.
  • Role models:

All of the adults in Angelina's life set good examples for her. Her teacher is always full of encouragement and respects her students’ different artistic interpretations, and her parents are always there to help her work through tough situations. Angelina herself is a positive female character, working to solve problems and learn new things.

What to watch out for

  • Violence & scariness:

One character is pretty clumsy, so there are some slapstick-type physical humor and tumbles, but no injuries.
  • Sexy stuff:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

There's some Angelina-related merchandise out there that young fans make take a new (or renewed) interest in.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps

Parents need to know that precocious mouse Angelina often finds herself in situations that will resonate with preschoolers, like wanting to be in the spotlight ... or getting reprimanded by a teacher. As Angelina works out solutions to her problems, she teaches kids important lessons in cooperation, patience, respect, and perseverance. The series also introduces kids to a variety of music and dance styles, and the "squeaky"-clean content makes it a great choice for kids of all ages.

Angelina Ballerina is a household favorite!

This is a show my daughter & I can watch together, and repeated viewings don't drive daddy crazy, either! The animation is extremely well done, and I believe the messages to be extremely positive as well. Highly recommended!

Good for 4+ but not for littler ones

I was disappointed to see how much Angelina's little mouse body changed in this new series. Now she's a thin, human-like figure. There's too much pressure on girls to be thin and beautiful and AB should look like a mouse. I also think the interaction of the mouselings is more mature than what's appropriate for 3 year-olds. Teasing and making fun of one another is something (I hope) is foreign to those under 4 or 5. We still prefer the books!
