What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this negative reality show from the creators of The Real World doesn't fall far from the tree, zeroing in on conflict and bad behavior and passing them off as entertainment. The series follows a group of women who were selected to live together because of their inclination for negative behavior, which ranges from lying to physical violence. Don't let the TV-14 rating fool you: The antics and examples on display here aren't fit for teens (or anyone, for that matter). Conflicts between cast members -- which sometimes include physical fighting -- are the focus of the show. Cast members are often seen drinking excessively, which sometimes serves as a motivator for more violent behavior.

Positive messages: The series showcases young women who engage in negative social behavior to have fun and/or to resolve conflict. It's an extremely negative, stereotypical portrayal of strong women.
Positive role models: The cast members appear unable to handle their disputes maturely and rationally, relying instead on lying, cheating, and fighting to solve problems.
Violence: Violence and/or threats of violence are often used as a way of resolving conflict. Cast members are sometimes seen pushing, shoving, slapping, and punching each other. Several of the women have serious anger-management issues; other violent behavior is motivated by drinking too much.
Sex: Some scenes include kissing and making out. Some strong references to sexual behavior. Some of the housemates dance suggestively.
Language: Frequent use of words like "bitch," "whore," and "ass." Stronger language is bleeped out.
Consumerism: Some of the young women are extremely materialistic. Southwest Airlines logo is visible.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Frequent consumption of alcohol and tobacco products. Some cast members are seen drinking excessive amounts of hard liquor and then engaging in violent behavior.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids

Families can talk about why reality TV feeds on conflict. What messages is the show sending about how women behave and relate to each other? Do you think a show about men in a similar situation would get the same treatment? What's the difference between being assertive and self-confident versus being overly aggressive and inappropriate? Which category do the women in the show fall into? Families can also discuss the importance of fostering positive relationships among women as a source of support and empowerment.

What's the story?

What's the story?

Brought to you by the creators of The Real World, THE BAD GIRLS CLUB focuses on seven strong young women who pride themselves in being both strong and unwilling to conform to what society expects of them, proving their point by engaging in outrageously bad behavior. The members of the club include aggressive Aimee, who believes that other women are generally out to get her; Jodie, a conservative office worker who likes to have fun after hours; Ty, a tough-talking former hustler; Kerry, whose recklessness has sidetracked her country music career; adult entertainer Leslie; spoiled, angry Ripsi; and Zara, who's known in her small town as the "wild child." While living in their posh Los Angeles house, the women try to become friends while coping with one another's backstabbing, lying, cheating, and flirting. Manipulative and deviously resourceful, they all engage in their own brand of destructive behavior in order to have fun, get want they want, and -- sometimes -- get even with the other women in the house.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Like any reality show, The Bad Girls Club has some soap opera-ish storylines, as well as some soul-searching among cast members as they begin to think about their own behavior as well as their relationships with their roommates. But the show's real focus is on the ladies' excessive arguing and physical fighting. While the housemates may believe that their aggressive, often-outlandish behavior empowers them, the show presents them as a group of catty, irrational girls who are more interested in creating a spectacle of themselves. It's an extremely negative, stereotypical portrayal of strong women and offers a very misguided interpretation of what assertive, self-confident women are really all about.

BAD GIRLS CLUB SHOWED LOWER THE RATINGS!
I love this show! This show is not porn but this show should be seen by anyone 12+,or maybe even older because sometimes they have little siblings who don't feel comftable watching this show. Also, people with mature way of thinking who can handle watching this show should watch it,otherwise no!I also think many girls that are 12 or below who watch this might watch this to just see what's it like when you live with 7-10 people in a mansion and all of them with different personalites.I watch this show when I was 13 and me like I know what I should do when I get into situations like they do.Sometimes they "beep" the words such as :f**k,sh*t,mother f****r,but they should also "beep" the words like:b*tch,a*s,sl*t,wh*re,etc.I'm really strong about this because you don't know when your parents or little siblings might be hearing it!

Great show, not always appropiate
Honestly, I love this show. Do NOT get me wrong, it's not the most appropiate out there, but it shows you how these girls deal with their anger. Its not a retarted show with retarted girls for no reason- its about girls overcoming their problems. This show is great for anyone that wants to see how these girls overcome their anger problems.

im addicted to the show i love it of course its violent raunchy and yes there is lots and lots i mean lots of alcohol but what society in our time doesnt enjoy it or love to cast it off as bad influence seriously people name it trashy and other things but the fact that you watch the show knowing this only proves the fact you are intrigue by it and you continue to be intrigue by it just like saying Lil Wayne music is offensive if its so offensive why keep listening to it simple as that

HORRIBLY REPULSIVE AND JUST VILE!!!!
There is EVERYTHING wrong with this show. And whoever voted this 2+ is just idiotic. They talk about sex, smoke and drink, smack and slap the other girls around along with verbal and mental abuse, they have HORRIBLE role models, they use very explict language, and they use a lot of brand names that they should not show. There is NOTHING positive about this show what so ever.

what happened to morals and values?
This is is entertaining, but after a while it gets to be so annoying and superficial. These girls are proud of being self indulgent girls who really seem to have no intellectual value to them. They are conceded and annoying most of the time who fight over everything. Yet some claim to be classy, while going out drinking, fighting, showing nudity while in public places, and more. This isn't for people who are under 17. And if you are under 17 watching this, I worry for you and what else you've been influenced by. Entertaining, somewhat, but there are no morals or values to these women.
