What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this Adult Swim cartoon is swimming in alcohol. The main characters certainly prefer drinking over just about any other activity, and the show makes light of consequences like drunk-driving accidents, vomiting, hangovers, and pursuing drunken sex with obviously inappropriate partners. But although the characters apparently are having plenty of fun, parts of the program are definitely unpleasant to watch. There are some extremely graphic images, and the general appearance of the entire series makes drinking seem ugly.

Positive messages: The show makes light of the main characters' dependency on alcoholism and its impact. Drinky Crow is only mildly upset when his girlfriend leaves him because he won't give up drinking and eagerly hits the bars to soothe his angst.
Violence: Though there's little fighting, some scenes feature extremely violent and graphic images that are inappropriate for kids. In one example, a character happily cuts out his own eyes with a razor blade.
Sex: Though there's no nudity, some scenes show the animated characters engaging in some rather explicit sexual activity.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: The two main characters spend much of the show drinking, talking about drinking, planning their drinking binges, and recovering from drinking. The show glamorizes drinking and minimizes its consequences. For example, the characters drink heavily while driving but walk away unscathed from a serious car wreck. That said, while Drinky Crow and his Uncle Gabby seem to be having plenty of fun, the show's animation style makes their alcoholic activities appear quite unappealing to viewers.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about drinking. Do you think this show makes drinking seem fun or unpleasant? Does it make you want to imitate the characters, or does it have the exact opposite effect? What are some of the real-life consequences of drinking? How are they different from what's shown here? What about compared to other TV shows and movies?

What's the story?

What's the story?
The main characters on THE DRINKY CROW SHOW -- Drinky Crow (voiced by Dino Stamatopoulos) and his best friend, Uncle Gabby (David Herman) -- like to drink. In fact, the main point of this animated show for mature viewers is watching them get drunk and engage in foolish behavior. They get drunk and drive. They get drunk and seek out wildly inappropriate sexual partners. They drink until they throw up. And they engage in extremely violent, self-destructive behavior, usually presented with graphic and very unpleasant images.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

This animated show for adults -- which is based on a comic strip by artist Tony Millionaire -- makes light of alcoholism. Drinky Crow and Uncle Gabby seem to be having fun as they drink themselves into stupors, and though the show's animation style certainly doesn't make their antics look pretty, it does try to make them seem amusing.

As such, The Drinky Crow Show tries to find entertainment in a narrow band located between promoting irresponsible behavior and convincing viewers to see it as a fun, ironic look at the potential hazards of liquor. And that's a tough job. Some people might laugh at Drinky Crow's misadventures but fail to realize that he's portrayed as anything but a role model. Others might find the characters' capers tedious, while others will simply find the show's graphic imagery unpleasant and offensive.

Astonishingly, Embarrassingly Awful; Not for Anyone Who Values Their Brain
There's nothing more embarrassing than someone who desperately wants to be "shocking", and is willing to try as hard as they can just to get some attention. Tony Millionaire's "Maakies" alternative comic strip (and "Saturday Night Live" shorts) have never been particularly funny. As Tony himself says, it consists of him "getting everything off my chest, laughing at the horrors of being alive". This is as dark as dark comedy gets; this is beyond pitch-black. To be honest, it really isn't funny at all. It's just ugly, nasty, and depressing. "The Drinky Crow Show" is a very different subject. Typical scene from "Drinky Crow": Uncle Gabby (Drinky Crow's equally worthless monkey sidekick) pops out of French spy DeBoursay's vagina and makes a hot dog with her placenta. I kid you not. When you're THIS desperate for attention, you're not gonna care if your show is funny or not. And "Drinky Crow" isn't even remotely funny. It's idiotic, juvenile, embarrassing, pathetic, obnoxious, and desperate. It's a waste of cable airwaves, and it's an insult to the intelligence of every living being who is sorry enough to watch it - whether by accident or not. I wouldn't want my DOGS watching this animated abortion. Please - for the love of all that is good and holy - do not support the creators of this monstrosity. Seriously. Just... don't. Go watch crap float around in the toilet. It's better than anything you'll see on this sad, sorry excuse for a cartoon. I mean it. Don't watch it.

this is the only show i can watch on adultswim it has no curse words

'Adult Swim' says it all
This may be a dumb show, which I believe it is, but the warning before the show states that it is not suitable for children under 14. The cartoons on Adult Swim are for adults. So parents, be warned - don't let your kids watch Cartoon Network after 10 PM.
