What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this cartoon series is based on a popular Nintendo video game character. While he looks cuddly and pink, Kirby is a star warrior-in-training and gets into at least one skirmish per episode. There are scary voices and situations that show the main characters in peril. Young children may be upset by some of the booming, spooky sounds and alarming images of monsters -- preview this one first.

What's the story?

KIRBY: RIGHT BACK AT YA! is based on the original video game and its characters: Kirby (voiced by Makiko Ômoto), Tiff (Kerry Williams), Tuff (Kayzie Rogers), King Dedede (Ed Paul), and many others. In each episode, Kirby and the "good guys" happen upon a problem. The bad guys (King Dedede and various sidekicks and monsters) put Kirby and his friends into danger, but in the end, Kirby saves the day with his special powers as a star warrior-in-training.

Is it any good?

Casual viewers unfamiliar with the video games are likely to be puzzled by the plot, as well as by the characters and their relationships to one another. And while the show does sometimes make a stab at weaving in some educational content, but it doesn't really work. In one episode, for example, the storyline uses archeology as a way of learning about history. While, on the face of it, such information sounds interesting and potentially educational, in this case it's just a lame attempt to make a program that's really about anime characters who like to fight monsters (and each other) look smarter than it actually is.

Between the program itself and the commercials that interrupt it continually, Kirby feels like one continuous ad campaign peppered with animated violence and plots that make little sense. Kirby's pink ball body is a perfect metaphor for the entire show: pure, empty fluff.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about the franchising of products. Why do you think the producers of this TV show wanted to make a program about a popular video game character? Do you watch other shows with characters you've come to know through merchandise? What book character would make a good TV star?

Okay, I think should give the people of this some info before I go into reviewing this, so here goes: As of this post I'm 11, it is 2011, and I have reviewed the following; Digimon: The Movie, Digimon: Digital Monsters, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, Plants vs. Zombies, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, Avatar: The Last Airbender,Spongebob Squarepants, Kappa Mikey, The Chipmunk Adventure, Pokemon 3: Spell Of The Unown, Pokemon: The First Movie, The Lion King, Pokepark Wii: Pikachu’s Adventure, Pokemon Black and White, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, The Suite Life On Deck, Wizards of Waverly Place, Curious George, Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat, Improvise Everywhere, Webkinz, Guardians of Ga’hoole, Life After People, The Future Is Wild, How To Train Your Dragon (Bk 1), How To Train Your Dragon, Dan vs., Pokemon Chronicles, Good, now onto the review; I really don't understand why you didn't give it more stars, I mean really, hardly any of the characters *actually* appear in the games, and just about any of the ones that do are on a different side, so knowing the games make this even more confusing, and it seems you have confused a classic narrative mindscrew-making plot device for consumerism. The name of that plot device is; Widget, coming from the way most people pronounce an acronym found on the internet (a lot of important narrative devices went unnamed until TV Tropes) WJT, meaning Weird Japanese Thing. So Yup, this is a big Widget series. Tiff is a great role model, so this would be a great show to watch, if you can find it, because finding an episode intact is something Hera might force a Modern-Day Heracles/Hercules to do.

English Version VS. Japanese Version
This show is great, educational, entertaining, child friendly, and most of all, perfect. Don't watch the Japanese version for these reasons. The Japanese version has bad voice acting, bad audio quality, and unsynced lipflap. The English version has better audio quality, better voice acting, synced lipflap, and a better audio set up. The English Dub also follows the Original creator Masahiro Sakurai's wish and primary rule of Kirby not aloud to speak where as the Japanese version broke his rule and his desire. This is why the English version is better because it followed Kirby's true peronallity.

Love it
Ok first of all I'm 18. I love the show. As a matter of fact I think I'm going to buy the whole series. The show has hidden morals such as "If you try, you will succeed" or "No matter what situation your in your friends will be there for you". My nephew always watches it with me and he loves the show. Hell even my dad watches it and he's 48. (I don't even think he's missed an episode). Anywho the show is adorible and has great characters and symbolisms. Parents need to ease up a little. My parent let me watch shows like this and I learn everything I know from cartoons and video game. Trust me, its the best medicine for kids like me with ADHD, and autism. Anyway I digress, The shows great, my little cousins love it, my nephew loves it, my brother loves it (21 now), and I love it. Just because you lost touch with your inner child, doesnt mean children have to lose touch with it too. Think about. You'll learn something.

Silly adults. You make me laugh.
Silly adults. You make me laugh. After reading various reviews, it's clear that you have obviously watched episodes in random order. Kirby is not like other cartoons, where you can just jump in anywhere and perfectly understand what's going on. Not only that, the english version isn't worth watching, I admit it. If you want a good show, watch the Japanese version (Which is the original, mind you). In the english version, personalities are screwed up, voices go from terrifying to squeaky (I mean look at eNeMy, or should I say Nightmare,as is his original name. By Sithis, his voice is gone from deep and scary to gay and rubbery!), certain scenes are taken out, it was basically butchered. So guess what? By A) Watching episodes in random order B) Telling lies about, I.E Disturbing monster appearences (How exactly is a snowman scary?) and finally C) Saying it's not appropriate for kids because it does things that nearly every other cartoon does (OMG TEY PUT DA MAIN CHARACTERS IN PERIL ZOMG AAAAAAAAAAH!), you have proven yourselves dumb, stupid, and idiotic. As the saying goes, think before you speak, or in this case type. And yes, I have thought this over quite well. You'll be suprised how hard it is to deal with stupid people and OMG I SAID STUPID! P.S: OMG VIOLENCE!

My son loves this
If they would just stick with the original, I could've rated it TV-G, but since they edited it...

This is a very good anime and it is as epic like others such as Soul Eater and Naruto. A great story means so many viewers. Critics just looked at it in a wrong way.

Lighten Up
There's nothing wrong with Kirby. No more violent than any sporting event. And commercial ... have you seen the product placements in every TV show nowadays? As for education, that's what school and parents are for. Can't children watch something simply for entertainment's sake once in a while? The stories are good, the dialog is mild, and the characters are interesting. We can't live with our heads in the sand watching PBS and PTL Club all of the time. Lighten up.

Um... what?
Wait, didn't you guys give this a POSITIVE review before? You can't just change that! As for the show itself, aside from demoting Metaknight to "Kirbydex" status, it's surprisingly good. There are a good number of dark moments but plenty of cute, fun moments as well. It's surprisingly good for a 4kids dub and it even has a good amount of humor for adults without going too far. (They have a subtle reference to Psycho of all things) I especially like the animations as they mix 2D and 3D very well, save for a few moments where the 3D becomes too obvious and gives it more of a cell-shaded feel. Furthermore, how is this show not substantial? There are plenty of life lessons thrown into this, like always clean up your trash, be kind to your environment, don't be cruel to wildlife and others. So yeah, CS, you're way off here. In fact, the only reason this had a positive score before was because of its occasional archaeological lessons. Seriously, you guys are way off.
