What parents need to know
Parents need to know that this mild reality show is about two married people who have the medical condition known as dwarfism; they're little people. While the show does present a wonderful opportunity to educate people about the condition, that's not really the point. And though the chocolate creations the couple produces are incredible -- the show clearly exists to provide folks an opportunity to see little people doing something unusual -- thankfully, it's tastefully handled.
What's the story?
Steve and Katie Hatch are the owners of Hatch Family Chocolates in Salt Lake City, Utah, which, in addition to making some amazing little treats, builds some massive chocolate creations -- such as a full-sized desk, with accessories, completely out of chocolate. Steve and Katie also happen to be little people -- folks who, as they explain patiently to a particularly boorish customer, have the medical condition known as dwarfism.
Is it any good?
The good news is that the focus is on the chocolate, and the show does not take the "it's so amazing that little people can do something like this" attitude. If anything, Steve and Katie's size is almost incidental, at least in the telling of the story. Katie is an incredible artist and her creations (a chocolate boom box and records, for example) are beyond incredible.
But she and Steve are just another nice couple on a reality show, and the only thing unusual about them is their size. Which doesn't make for much of a show, unless you're really, really into chocolate.
What families can talk about
Families can talk about how real the show is. Can you spot examples of the narrative being tweaked for dramatic effect? Do you ever wonder what its like to produce a reality show like this?
Does the show exploit people who are different? Parents can ask their children if they think the show would exist if the couple didn't have dwarfism.

I have a 4 year old who loves to watch it, and wants to rewind certain parts over and over again! I think it's a good show and I hope it will continue to do well.
