What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this reality series, which follows women married or in a committed relationship with career rock and roll musicians, features some strong sexual content (including obvious sexual references, women in thongs, and blurred nudity), and lots of strong language (“s--t” and “f--k”  are bleeped). Drinking is frequent, and occasionally references are made to drug addiction.

  • While highlighting the pros and the cons of being married to or in a committed relationship with a career rock musician the series reinforces the idea that women's power comes primarily from their sexuality.
  • The women are committed to their partners and their families, as well as their own careers, which often revolve around dancing and/or modeling. But even though some of the women are clearly smart and/or business savvy, their emphasis on looks and sexuality reinforces negative stereotypes about women.
  • Not applicable.
  • Contains some sexual content and strong innuendo, including references to phone/online sex. Some of the wives are shown wearing revealing underwear and/or very skimpy outfits. Nudity is blurred, but parts of women's breasts are sometimes visible through sheer outfits. Discussions about infidelity are frequent. Husbands are occasionally shown rubbing their wives suggestively; men are occasionally shown  touching/kissing the wives. One wife openly celebrates her breast implants.

What's the story?

The reality series MARRIED TO ROCK follows the exploits of four rock musician wives and girlfriends. It stars Etty Farrell, the wife of Jane’s Addiction lead singer Perry Farrell, Susan McKagan, the wife of original Guns N Roses bassist Duff McKagan, and Josie Stevens, who is married to guitarist and song writer Steve Stevens. A.J. Celi, the girlfriend of The Cult guitarist Billy Duffy, rounds out the cast. The ladies support each other while they juggle their roles as supportive partners, career women, and in some cases, mothers, while still taking pleasure in the wild rock and roll music scene.

Is it any good?

The series offers a backstage view of some of the highs and lows that come with being involved and/or married to career rock and roll musicians. The women enjoy some of the perks of the lifestyle, which includes dressing in sexy outfits, attending wild parties, and enjoying a jet set lifestyle. But they must also find ways to cope with some of the challenges it brings, including dealing with their partners’ constant touring and groupies.

These women point out that their lives are far from easy thanks to their husband or partner’s career. However, they share this insight while engaging in  attention-grabbing activities of their own, like trying on see-through outfits, taking off their clothes, or behaving outrageously with other men. As a result, it is hard to take them, or the show, seriously.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about how women are portrayed in this show. Do all wives of rock stars look and/or behave the way these women do? Or do you think they are playing up a stereotypes about wild women in rock and roll for the sake of entertainment?

  • How realistic is what you see on this show? Do you think anything is played up or edited in a way to make things appear more dramatic?

if you don't mind your kids watching women who look, dress and act like porn stars then this show is for them. some of the women on this show seem to have had a lot of plastic surgery and are darn right scary looking.
