Parents need to know that this reality series, which follows women married or in a committed relationship with career rock and roll musicians, features some strong sexual content (including obvious sexual references, women in thongs, and blurred nudity), and lots of strong language (“s--t” and “f--k” are bleeped). Drinking is frequent, and occasionally references are made to drug addiction.
The reality series MARRIED TO ROCK follows the exploits of four rock musician wives and girlfriends. It stars Etty Farrell, the wife of Jane’s Addiction lead singer Perry Farrell, Susan McKagan, the wife of original Guns N Roses bassist Duff McKagan, and Josie Stevens, who is married to guitarist and song writer Steve Stevens. A.J. Celi, the girlfriend of The Cult guitarist Billy Duffy, rounds out the cast. The ladies support each other while they juggle their roles as supportive partners, career women, and in some cases, mothers, while still taking pleasure in the wild rock and roll music scene.
The series offers a backstage view of some of the highs and lows that come with being involved and/or married to career rock and roll musicians. The women enjoy some of the perks of the lifestyle, which includes dressing in sexy outfits, attending wild parties, and enjoying a jet set lifestyle. But they must also find ways to cope with some of the challenges it brings, including dealing with their partners’ constant touring and groupies.
These women point out that their lives are far from easy thanks to their husband or partner’s career. However, they share this insight while engaging in attention-grabbing activities of their own, like trying on see-through outfits, taking off their clothes, or behaving outrageously with other men. As a result, it is hard to take them, or the show, seriously.
Families can talk about how women are portrayed in this show. Do all wives of rock stars look and/or behave the way these women do? Or do you think they are playing up a stereotypes about wild women in rock and roll for the sake of entertainment?
How realistic is what you see on this show? Do you think anything is played up or edited in a way to make things appear more dramatic?
