What parents need to know

Parents need to know that each episode of this show (which is like a virtual kindergarten class) will stimulate young kids. The episodes are guided by the show's two adult hosts -- who are full of boundless energy and might wear on parents' nerves. The series touches on activities like music, crafts, and story time. The series is sure to spark the imagination of young kids.

What's the story?

Aimed at kids ages 3 to 6, OUT OF THE BOX is like a 30-minute kindergarten class that's divided into segments: music time, craft time, and story time. Hosts Tony James and Vivian Bayabuy lead the kids through activities based on the day's theme and constantly direct their attention toward the camera, encouraging viewers to take part. For example, in an episode focused on the concept of flight, the "music time" segment included simple songs about flying with easy-to-follow choreography; during "craft time," Tony and Vivian taught the kids to make "purple parachute people" out of Dixie cups, tissues, yarn, and tape; and during "story time," Tony and Vivian told a creative version of Peter Pan while the kids acted out parts of the story.

Is it any good?

There are plenty of opportunities here for kids to play along and be creative -- though kids will certainly need supervision and help finding materials during the "craft time" segment. Parents might also find Tony and Vivian's over-the-top bubbliness a little too much to handle.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about the different activities that the series takes viewers through. Kids might be interested in creating the craft they saw on an episode. What types of lessons do the hosts help their viewers learn?

We Love OOTB!
I have to disagree with the common sense review's comment about Tony and Vivian - I find them not only NOT annoying, but such a great influence on my young son. They're both so sweet and fun! The show is so much more than passive entertainment. My son learns so many ideas for craft projects, songs, games, etc. from this show. Right now it's the only show he watches. I love the wholesomeness of this show - it's all positive and enriching. No "Rugrats" calling their sister "stupid" or characters hitting each other like on that awful show "Tweenies". Out of the Box is the best!

ALL AGES, 3-15
It isnt just a kid show. It teaches about everything. Some kids stuff, like sharing and friends (not really good) but it mostly teaches maturity.

My Daughter misses the show and keeps asking me why it isn't on anymore.
They maybe annoying to most parents, but they aren't for the children. That is why it is a children's show. They keep the children entertained so parents can get things done around the house. There is no profanity, sex, language so parents don't have to worry what their children are doing while watching the show. Parents know that they are okay. It does stretch my children imagination a lot though and that can be overwhelming. Please put them back on TV for THE CHILDREN.
