The Planet's Funniest Animals (Animal Planet)

common sense media says

The planet's weakest jokes about pet videos.

parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that these videos frequently present some dubious lessons about pet ownership. The animals in the videos often seem to be in peril -- usually by falling into water or being attacked by a larger animal -- and they're not always treated with respect (or kindness) by their owners. Voiceover narration frequently includes sexual innuendo and may be confusing to younger viewers.

Positive messages: Some of the examples of pet ownership here are iffy at best.
Violence & scariness: Not applicable.
Sexy stuff: Some suggestive comments in the voiceover narration that accompanies the video clips.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids

Families can talk about why other families send in these videos of their pets. Do you think they thought what the dog did was funny? Was it? What do you think the dog thought? Would you want your pet to do that? Is it right to purposely involve pets in potentially dangerous situations?

What's the story?

What's the story?

PLANET'S FUNNIEST ANIMALS is yet another iteration of America's Funniest Home Videos, which was funny for about an hour sometime in the late '80s and has gone consistently downhill since.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

By now, there are apparently no new funny home videos of animals to be had. Thus, the videos shown here tend to be not so much funny as merely tired. If you've seen one small dog bait a large cat or attack a remote control truck, you've seen them all. The voiceover narration device only adds confusion for the very youngest viewers, who might not yet have seen a dog so determined to hang onto a ball that he or she can be picked up that way and theoretically could have been mildly entertained.

The humor is below the Beavis and Butt-Head level, the host (Matt Gallant) is annoying, the videos trite. With hundreds of channels at your disposal, there has to be something better on.

lots of laughs
My family--especially the kids--just LOVES this show. It's like funniest home videos but all about animals. I will say that the narration and jokes are often groan-invoking cheesy for the adults, but the kids don't ever mind.

Grow up...
The default review on this show attacks it as tasteless, but y'know, sometimes a little mind-rot ISN'T A BAD THING. The real world can be such a cruel and unfunny place. Humor, even if it's in bad taste, can be more than enough to brighten things, even if just a little bit.

Pause 5+ one star? Sorry, but that's just plain dumb
I love this show it is SOOOO funny when the animals do silly thing. There is nothing in the show worthy of the "Pause 5+ one star" rating. I say "ON 5+ 5 Stars".

Great show for families
Some of the videos are suggestive but I think most kids older then 7 can handle it.

An family friendly show (and hey I get popcorn!)
I love this show I egerly await for it to come on its' awesome! I wouldnt suggest it for 5 and under though because they MIGHT not get how its funny.

Funny for little kids only
Little kids will really enjoy this show because of the funny animal clips. But like "America's Funniest Home Videos" with Tom Bergeron, it contains mild innuendo and animal clips with animals in iffy situations. This is the reason I think "Planet's" should be rated TV-G, though many adults and teens will find this show stupid.

F-ck you CSM.
Delete this review KJ Dell Antonia. Delete or I will kick your flabby ass like the freaking b-stard you are. Planet's Funniest Animals may not have educational value, but is indeed one of the best shows I have every seen. The host is just fine, the pets are funny, so it's basicly like you raided this show's car, the car alarm went on, and you shattered the car alarm. Holy sh-t.

This show is very clean and very funny. My family really enjoys it.
