Parents need to know that this installment of the Real Housewives franchise features some of the wealthy and privileged women of Beverly Hills, California. Like its sister shows, wealth and materialism are major themes here. The show features its trademark catty behavior among the women, as well as plenty of drinking (wine, champagne, cocktails), gambling, and some strong language (“s--t,” “f--k”, all bleeped).
THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF BEVERLY HILLS showcases the glamorous lives of some of the women living in the city of make believe. The series features business woman Adrienne Maloof, a member of the Maloof family business empire, British entrepreneur Lisa Vanderpump, and business woman Taylor Armstrong. Camille Grammer, a dancer who is best known as actor Kelsey Grammer’s wife, and former child actress Kyle Richards are also part of the gang. Also joining the cast is Kyle’s sister, Kim Richards, a former Disney child star who finds it hard to connect with the Beverly Hills clan. From flying to basketball games in chartered jets to attending red carpet events, the housewives show how they work and live in a town where money, connections, and looks, are everything.
Like its predecessors, much of the show’s focus is on how much these women have and how well they live. While some of these women pursue business ventures and have a strong work ethic, most of them are also married to very wealthy men. However, they are all pretty savvy when it comes to understanding that their status in Beverly Hills can change in an instant.
The show features its fair share of catty behavior, salty language, and obnoxiously luxurious lifestyles. The sibling rivalry between the Richards sisters, and the conversations about the Grammer’s deteriorating marriage, also create some heated exchanges and some awkward voyeuristic moments. Bottom line? This show offers more of the same old Housewives drama, which means that franchise fans won’t be disappointed.
Families can talk about the popularity of the Real Housewives brand. Why are these shows so successful? What kinds of messages do they send about consumerism?
Do you think that this series fairly represents what life is really like in Beverly Hills? Or do you think it is playing into existing stereotypes about the area and the people who live there?
