Why We Rated This on for Ages 11 and Up

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Although the series includes warnings about the dangerous nature of the sports and stunts it features, kids may still be very interested in trying them at home -- so be sure to remind them that feats like these aren't safe without supervision, training, and safety gear. On the upside, the athletes demonstrate a love, passion, and respect for their sports.
  • Role models:

The athlethes are passionate about their sports, work hard, and look to challenge themselves constantly. On the downside, although women definitely participate in extreme sporting events, almost all of the athletes featured here are young men.
  • Violence:

The sports are dangerous and can result in very serious injuries. Athletes are occasionally shown taking serious tumbles, which often result in sprains and broken bones.
  • Sex:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

Fairly infrequent use of relatively mild words like "hell."
  • Consumerism:

Sporting gear brands, like Billabong, are visible. Occasionally the labels of the athletes’ sponsors (like Siemens) are also visible.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Re:Evolution of Sports

Parents need to know that in addition to highlighting the mental and physical challenges associated with extreme sports (as well as what inspires athletes to participate in them), this stunt-heavy series frequently shows athletes falling and getting hurt (bruises, scrapes, broken bones). Remind kids that the activities featured here can result in serious -- even potentially fatal -- injuries.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about what inspires people to participate in extreme sports. Do you think they enjoy risking injury? Are these athletes courageous, or just acting wild?
  • Do women participate in extreme sports? Which ones? Do you think more men than women participate in them? Why or why not?
  • Why do you think extreme sports aren’t regularly covered by the mainstream media as much as sports like basketball or golf?
