What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this cartoon -- which was inspired by a much-more-innocent 1970s Hanna-Barbera show -- is meant for a mature audience. It includes edgy jokes about the overweight, people with mental illness, sex, criminal activity, radiation and cancer, drinking and drugs, and a host of other titillating subjects. Episodes often involve violence, such as when a monster attacks the compound and kills most of the crew. Most of the violence is off screen, but descriptions of blood and gore are vivid.

Positive messages: Characters are nasty to each other. Violence is used to solve conflict.
Violence: Frequent cartoon violence. For example, one episode shows a bird violently attacking a grasshopper.
Sex: Some references to sex and sexual issues, like virginity.
Language: Occasional "ass" and some derogatory terms like "sissy" and "cream puff."
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Occasional references to alcohol use. Some characters deal with drinking problems.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about why children's cartoons are sometimes made for adults. Can you think of songs, other TV shows, or anything else that's been transformed from kid fare to grown-up material? How do you feel about these types of transformations?

What's the story?

What's the story?
SPACE GHOST COAST TO COAST is a mock talk show starring Space Ghost, an animated 1960s Hanna-Barbera cartoon character. Space Ghost (voiced by George Lowe), sits behind a desk in an animated studio and interviews real, non-animated celebrities who appear on a TVscreen beside him. Joining Space Ghost on the show is his evil praying-mantis bandleader Zorak (C. Martin Croker), and the show's producer, Moltar (also Croker), a man made of lava. Both of them disdain Space Ghost; they regularly complain about him and often insult him directly. As for Space Ghost himself, he's not terribly bright, often arrogant, and rather oblivious to those around him -- he regularly ignores his guests, who don't usually seem to even notice.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Though animated, Space Ghost Coast to Coast isn't intended for kids (it airs as part of the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim line up for a reason). Jokes about being depressed because of a failing marriage, constantly throwing around insults (which include jokes about being a "sissy" or "cream puff"), and references to being drunk or wanted for murder make this edgy show a better fit for teens and adults. The disjointed relationship between the animated and the real only adds to the show's bizarre, surreal humor.

Hilarious all-ages comedy.
Back in the day of Ren & Stimpy, this used to play on daytime CN. Standards have gotten more strict. The show plays on Adult Swim now. It's actually rather tame, other then some cartoon violence and occasional mild language a little intense for under 8, but neither I haven't seen on daytime CN today.

This show is great. Read This Please.
My son and I watch this show on Comcast On Demand Together and we both think it is halarious. This show is great for all ages but is a little complacated. I think it should be rated G. This show rocks. Language- not a problem at all. And the violence is cartoon violence. No sexual content at all. It is just a great show for all ages. I think it should be on cartoon network instead of Adult Swim, because it is a show this is appropreate for all ages, sort of like Tom and Jerry...

Adult Swim at it's tamest.
Easily the tamest Adult Swim show ever. It's a little violent, but nothing scary.

funny animated talk show!
If you like The Brak Show, you'll love this! There's an episode were space ghost dose an interview with weird al, there's another one were he dose an interview with Tenatios d (jack Black and Kyle Gass.)

Not a bad show, but not the best Adult Swim show.
This show is funny, and, unlike a lot of other Adult Swim shows, it is not inappropriate. I recommend it to people who have an odd sense of humor.
