    Gets Annoying

The little kids will love this show to a point where you have to leave the house to get some peace and quiet. However anyone around fourteen and up, (as long as they have matured) will find this show just plain annoying.

    SpongeBob is stupid

I don't like the newer SpongeBobs. It is losing it's humor and coming up with stupid ideas. Earlier Episodes are very funny but now spongebob is just annoying.

Watch sparingly, a good "downtime" cartoon

Spongebob is definitely one of those cartoons that I would equate with 'downtime' for a child. I think it is a fine silly and funny cartoon for the lighter moments in between school, homework, activities and sports. Kids are incredibly scheduled these days and this cartoon can server as a fun "off " time. I would certainly tune in sparingly as there are other, far more educational choices, but again Spongebob has it's place.

    My concerns are:
    • Excessive violence

One of the best shows ever. People need to know that this is NOT a kiddie show. It's has very sophisticated, and sometimes adult-oriented humor. The show is very cynical and very dark and creepy at times and deals with topics such as murder and insanity. I just love the show for its dark cynical and downright hilarious sense of humor.

Spongebob isnt appropriate for the young audience it appeals to.

Ive seen numerous butt's in this cartoon and although it is funny it isnt for my 2 year old daughter who wants to watch spongebob because her older cousin does. I also watched the movie which shows spongebob in the shower with squidward and then they get "drunk" off ice cream and spongebob wakes up with a hangover and is late for work. These are not messages i want to send to my child. Also at one point Patrick asks the mermaid if she has seen his underwear to which she replys no and he says Do you want to? ... things like this may be over my 2 year olds head but not my 8 year old cousin who is laughing and then repeating it. I dont think spongebob is appropriate for children under the age of 14.

    Funny for the whole family

We absolutely adore this show! It's the only cartoon on tv that our whole family can sit down and enjoy together. It's funny, and fortunately my daughter knows that "stupid" and other such words that are used in the show are not words that are OK for her to use. I love that Spongebob has such a good heart and is too innocent and trusting to think that anyone would be out to do him harm. My favorite example of this is when Mr Krabs tries to insult Spongebob by saying a hat he's wearing makes him look like a girl. Spongebob's response was a huge, eye batting grin and says "am I a PRETTY girl?" Hilarious!

spongebob is a reall nicktoon but not a classic nicktoon cause when the good old shos were disappering and started to fade this cartoon is the most highest rated watch show cause it was made when the classics were still out like the rugrats hey arnold and aaahh real monsters to name a few

This is not apropriate for kids 8-

You may think I am crazy saying that kids 8- shouldn't see this but if you watch many episodes you will notice many "sexually concentrated" things they say. Yet this can be funny there are some rather "gruesome" scenes and or "violent for kids" scenes. Yet your kids may not understand the things they say some things are rather very obvious. I warn parents about letting kids watch this...

    Not for Toddlers

My daughter came home from daycare saying that if you eat a bee you'll die because they put a bee in a krabby patty and fed it to someone and they died. After some research I've decided she probably saw the "Nasty Patty" episode where they feed the health inspector a krabby patty which has toe nail clippings, has been dropped in the toilet and cleaned with a dirty sock and a fly happens to get in his mouth and he chokes on it. While the inspector is choking they are saying "Watch him suffer". They then decide to bury the body so they don't go to jail. Now granted, the inspector isn't really dead, just unconscious, but this is NOT something I want my 4 year old watching for entertainment. I have not seen the episode personally (nor do I intend to), but it sounds AWFUL (I read the entire transcript) and inappropriate for younger children. It's more than just explaining to a child not to use certain language the characters use. I certainly should not be in a position where I'm telling my 4 year old that she should be burying a body in the yard or feeding gross and nasty things to people!

This show is one the kids love and marketing gold. However I feel that it has no value. It seems there is noticable behavior changes when we allow our son to watch it. They are often rude on the show, have bad manners and send negative messages. And often the scenes are gross or disturbing. I'll call it iffy but I do not think there is anything positive to come from the show. But rest assured it will most likely work with marketing to your child and them wanting merchandise from the show. Best advice is to avoid it before they ever see it. Will they be damaged if they see it? Probably not. But it may change behavior.

    Not good for children

I don't think this show is ok for children. The 1st time the red flag went up for me was when my brother was younger and watching it and the guys in my college was watching it. They say things that are very questionable and have under lying sexual meaning. The "jokes", actions, attitude and all are not ok for little children to see they then want to emulate it and think its ok.

    Ok for intermittent viewing

Although I let my child watch this, he can only watch 2 or 3 a week. Since I made the change, there has been a positive change in his behavior. I find that he absorbs the whining ways of SpongeBob and also can have sarcastic humor that a young child cannot decipher what is proper just yet.

    Bottom Line:TV-Y

For all the three comments I Posted, I was trying to say It should Be TV-Y. When I recorded Spongebob episodes, I put a TV-Y over the TV-Y7(Sometimes a TV-Y with a TV-PG). Who said It should be TV-14, You are Crazy.

Good and Bad for some kids

The show can have value to it like SB was making fun of sandy and Quit at the end. Some are bad like SB Was saying a bad word and there is Blood in four episodes. 1.Dying for Pie 2.House Fancy 3.The Splinter 4.SB vs. The Big one. Why do some parents think it should TV-14? Bottom Line-TV-Y(Some episodes TV-PG)

    Something to add...

I think it should be TV-Y. Blood is replaced with Grease. I was laughing at the nudity in this toon when I was four. I'd say these comments when I was Young(Watch out(Ouch) Remember, The show is still rated TV-Y ON its site.Too silly for TV-Y7.Now for content. Rating:TV-Y V(Pause)Cartoon Violence S(Pause)Cartoon nudity and some talk(Patrick,You can't be the mom.You don't even where a shirt.etc) L(None)Sailor mouth is minor. Words like stupid and idiot. M(ON)Good Messages are mixed into the silly plot,No Drugs. Now this is not a real "know your kid"situation. Some people want to to change the show from TV-Y7 to TV-14 because of stupid and idiot. They are not bad words. My sister watched this when she was 2 And I watched this when I was four. You will never ever outgrow this. I learn a lesson in almost every episode(See M above in content review).I heard the theme backward and that is the only thing offensive, but is in a matter to the show.I change my rating from Green 8+ to Green 4+.If you wish the show was still TV-Y ,then go to it's website. The show is not bad.I got a spongebob toothbrush and toothbrush. The most offefensive episode is Sailor Mouth. The cleanest episode was Sleepy time. Cartoonish affects such as eyeballs out head,Ripping charaters, and taking arms out aren't bloody like robot chicken. If you ban this one, throw away your TV because this was my first show in mind after watching boring Dora. You should not even have a child if you ban this. Let them watch this one

    Respet the sponge

It is hilarious and has average cartoon stuff and morals. Sailor Mouth teaches a lesson. The show is still rated TV-Y on it's site. It has some stuff very young kids should not see and not for kids under five.

Hilarious, but not for young children.

This is a very funny show but it contains a lot of violence, more then its rating should allow. There's blood, skinning, dismemberment, etc. frequently. Don't be mislead, TV-Y7 really means TV-PG, but is aimed for children. Lastly, there is some sexual innuendo that is definitely too inappropriate to children (examples: references to masturbation, homosexuality, mild profanity, etc.) Apart from that, it is in my opinion the second funniest cartoon on TV (South Park is #1).

    I don't like Sponge Bob

I don't like Sponge Bob, at least, not for my kid. He's sarcastic and smart-mouthed and the he and his friends seem to delight in hurting each other. My son definitely imitates what he sees on TV and if he ended up sounding like Sponge Bob, I would be very upset.

Perfect for ages 4 and up, but iffy for younger kids.

Spongebob is a great role model- "the picture of purity." He is always happy in any situation and makes the best out of everything. In one episode, he says about Plankton, the villain in the show, "If he had any friends, I bet he wouldn't be such a meanie." Then he proceeds to try and make friends with Plankton. Lots of positive messages, but some occasional name-calling that isn't too harsh, but probably not something parents will want their kids to repeat.
