Parents need to know that this comedy series features strong positive messages about having self confidence, a positive body image, and working hard for your goals. Champagne bottles are sometimes visible, and a few strong words ("damn," "crap") are sometimes heard. Expect some mild sexual quips about breasts, body shape, and messing around. Subtle stereotypical characterizations of actresses and other groups are sometimes part of the humor.
What's the story?
STATE OF GEORGIA is a comedy series starring Raven Symone as Georgia Chamberlain, a recent college graduate/aspiring actress who left the Peach State to take New York City by storm. The self-confident Southern belle soon finds that going out on auditions and facing rejection is tough, but luckily she has her geeky best friend, Jo (Majandra Delfino), by her side to keep her going. Her colorful Aunt Honey (Loretta Devine) is also there to hand out some good advice. Armed with good friends, drive, and talent, Georgia keeps looking for her big break in hopes of someday seeing her name in lights.
Is it any good?
This lighthearted series features a strong young woman who refuses to allow stereotypical ideas about size and race to define her aspirations or who she is. It also underscores the importance of having a support system when moving to a new place and/or starting a new phase of life.
Some of the show's jokes are a little stereotypical, and the sexual innuendo -- most of which is more comical than suggestive -- makes it a little strong for tweens. But overall the show offers some fun, positive entertainment for kids who have the maturity to handle it.

i am a man who grew up with raven and she has never failed to make me smile and she still hasnt in her hilarious new show but be careful with very young kids i would say about 9 and under should not watch this show do to brief bad talk and subject matter

Recently I watched an episode with my wife to screen it for our middle school aged children and we were disappointed to see Ravene's character open her blouse and reveal her breast to a theater director so he would grant her a part in a play. What a message for young people: show your body parts to get what you want out of life...is this for real? Granted, her back was too the camera, but it was implied and seen as a good thing on this show. I'm disappointed in Ravene's choice for this role, but that's hollywood and just a job probably to her. Unfortunately, I don't see this show as a harmless step up from "That's So Ravene", but rather a conditioning for parents and young people to lower the bar further until they get to hit the more crass stuff by the time their in 9th grade if they aren't regularly seeing it now. Totally not impressed with the show. It's just a reflection of how bad our entertainment business has become when a poorly written sit-com to introduce girls into more self image problems and visceral thinking can be a hit and come back for another out of work, former child star. Bill Cosby would morally decline Ravene's involvement in this one.

I think that this is a great show. (I'm 14) It does have some dating but nothing terrible! (: Its really funny too! great for teenagers.

State Of Georgia is a wonderful show. I watched this show all the time. I love every episode. All of the characters are mostly good role models. Georgia wants to become an actor and Jo is a gifted science student. The show doesn't really have any inappropriate scenes. Except, mostly from the the first episode. Georgia does and says some inappropriate things to get a part in a role. There aren't really too many bad words except when she says the "D" word and crap. There might be sometimes where there at bars or Aunt Honey might be drinking. Other than that, it talks about friendship, careers, and life. This show may be great for some certain ages. I give it thumbs up for me.
