Why We Rated This on for Ages 8 and Up

The good stuff

  • Messages:

In addition to dance, the series exposes viewers to the participating countries' diversity of dress, music, and tradition. Crowd members often boo scores they consider too low.

What to watch out for

  • Violence & scariness:

    Not an issue.
  • Sexy stuff:

Some female performers wear revealing costumes, and a few dances (the Tango, for instance) hint at sexuality with longing glances and intimate embraces.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Superstars of Dance

Parents need to know that this series showcases the cultural diversity of the eight participating countries through music, dress, and, of course, dance styles. Viewers are not only treated to stunning performances, but they also learn something about the traditions in the dancers' countries and the role of dance within each cultures. Though the series is rooted in competition, there's no in-fighting among the participants, all of whom show respect for their peers' efforts. But on the flipside, audience members often boo the judges when they disagree with their scores, so parents may want to follow up with reminders about good sportsmanship.

I thought one of the girls needed more clothing

I think this show is a disgrace to dancing. This is not an actual dancing show more of a stripping club. It looks as if some of the judges are judging by how little clothing a contestant is wearing. One of the girls from tonights showing was practically naked and her dancing was horrible. But 2 of the male judges gave her a ten. Make sense to you?

I am not pleased with it

I watched the first two episodes of Super Stars of Dance and I think that some of the judges who are on the panel sure don't know what good dancing is. For instance they gave the Irish dancers a very good mark for repetitive steps and yet gave the American tap dancer low marks for a very challenging and good technical performance. She was right to tell the judges what she thought. I don't even know this girl, but I thought she was very good. My grandaughter who is a tap dance teacher also thought the same thing. I will not be watching the show from now on due to the very poor judging. They keep someone like Robert Morain who is a contortionist???? I just don't get it.
