What's the Story?

THE WORLD ACCORDING TO PARIS is a reality show designed to give viewers the chance to look into the private world of controversial socialite Paris Hilton. Cameras follow her as she completes her court-mandated community service, gets hounded by the paparazzi, and parties with best friends Brooke Mueller, club promoter Allison Melnick, and photographer Jennifer Rovero. They also get to see how her long-term relationship with boyfriend Cy Waits continues to develop. Helping her get through it all is her mom Kathy, and her assistant Lexie Dreyfus.

Is It Any Good?

The series, which was produced to highlight Hilton's more serious and vulnerable side, underscores the importance the socialite places on her family as well as her very few trusted friends. It also calls attention to some of her real-life problems, including her struggle to find any sort of privacy, her run-ins with the law, and her personal safety, which have become more urgent thanks to a series of disturbing and potentially life-threatening home invasions.

Despite these trials, it is difficult to take the narcissistic Paris seriously, especially when she uses a baby voice to get what she wants, and allows cameras to film her while she's bathing. Her focus on materialism, and the catty behavior she exhibits towards some folks, doesn't make her an ideal role model, either. Some folks may get some voyeuristic pleasure from watching her, but overall, there really isn't much here.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about why celebs appear on reality shows. If Paris Hilton is concerned about her privacy and her safety, why does she continue to produce and star in her own unscripted shows? Is it the money? The celebrity status it gives her?
