Parents need to know that this site doesn't even pretend to regulate the message boards or personal pages, but there's a link to report the abuse that pops up and you can block someone. The My Journal section automatically posts the user's age and anyone can check out any personal info posted. A teen (13 and up) only needs to provide an email address, date of birth, gender, and country to sign up; however, to enter contests, you have to enter your full name and mailing address, and give specific personal information.
It's no secret that teens love celebrities and talking to each other about celebrities, so it's no wonder they'd be into TEENHOLLYWOOD.COM. The site keeps teens informed about their favorite celebs with short articles and photos. Teens can also post questions that moderators may choose for live chats with minor celebrities like Kevin Federline and Romeo. The movie portion of the site shows trailers of new releases, offers brief synopses, and gives links to official movie and the movie stars' sites. Fans can also download movie wallpaper, video clips, and photos from their favorite flicks.
Unless a teen is particularly enthralled with the red carpet and what outfit Johnny Depp sported on it, the site's usefulness is limited to finding stuff about a new movie release, a link to a favorite celeb's Web site, or getting the scoop on the latest badly behaving stars. The news section is heavy on scandal and breakups, but there are a few redeeming stories about do-good actors, and movie buffs will enjoy the site's lengthy Q&A interviews with actors.
Teens must be 13 to become a member and be able to post on unregulated message boards (there's a link to report abuse) and chats, upload personal photos, and enter contests. Teens can also post journal entries, comments, user names of friends, and personal photos for anyone to see.
Families can talk about why young celebrities often get a lot of attention -- and get into a lot of trouble. How does all of that attention impact young celebrities? What role does the paparazzi play in creating the images of celebrities as larger-than-life figures? Why do we spend so much time obsessing about actors' personal lives?
