What's It About?
The Fin, Fur and Feather Bureau of Investigation (FFFBI) is an eclectic herd of animal agents fighting crime-loving crustaceans, bad gnus, and evil cyber-toothed tigers. Players assist the FFFBI in solving mystery missions such as \"I Left my Art in San Francisco.\" It's about thwarting some art thieves with your math, logic, and research abilities. Kids will need to know something about art history, but it's nothing a simple Google search won't turn up. Other missions include one each on finance, genetics, and ecology. The games section features trivia quizzes of various kinds, as well as something called \"Perp Walk.\" In this one, players investigate an unusual crime by interviewing suspects.
Is It Any Good?
The site is hilarious. Parents will get all the word play and jokes (a Washington informant is known as "Deep Trout,") but kids will get enough of them to want to spend lots of time with the FFFBI. Judging by the correspondence from fourth and fifth graders (in Field Reports), the site is a hit.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about what makes for good sleuthing. What steps do you need to take to unravel a mystery? How do you collect clues and identify suspects? How are detectives usually portrayed in the media? Do you think that's realistic?
