Parents need to know that this site will help their girls understand the pop culture forces that affect their senses of self, and it will do so while entertaining them. Created by one of the leading authorities on media literacy, it uses TV, music, magazines, and digital life to teach girls about the messages in today's media -- and about their own media use.
Educational value:Fantastic site. Media literacy at its best -- teaches girls to look at media with a critical eye.
Positive messages:Helps girls separate the message and the messenger.
Though this site is meant for younger teens, I thoroughly enjoyed all of its features. This is a fascinating look at the role of the media in the lives of girls. I wish I had found this site when I was younger!
Since you are dealing with things like pop stars there is going to be some element of sexuality. Some of the costumes and lyrics are mildly suggestive. Otherwise it is a great site where girls can produce their own music, tv program or magazine. My daughter loved it.
I have not seen the site. I wonder how much of this site are our own concerns; that maybe our daughters don't have yet. I say let my daughter tell me that she's unhappy before she is pushed towards this site.
I focus more on what my daughter does than what she needs to know in order to be fine with her appearance. I tell my daughter she has a brain.
I loved this game at first but then I realized you can't save your pop star, comic, etc.! I work really hard on something and it doesn't even save it?! Well, this would be more fun if they updated the games and activites more, too. But it's still a cool site.
