My daughter found Neopets a few years ago and has been playing it since. I have watched her play, and I have noticed many games on the site have math, reading, and even typing skills. Not being 13, she can't type basically anything, and has little access to the chats. Also, the fact you can buy things for your pet puts a child in a responsible position. The Pets may be made of pixels, but my daughter loves her pet as though it were a real pet, and makes sure it is fed, groomed, played with, and makes sure they are happy. Buying things teaches your kids to handle money, and you can only play every game three times per day. Making money isn't easy as playing games in real life, no, but your kid learns from the games as well as has fun. That's one of the most important things. THE most important would be safety, and that is not an issue. I have seen the site content, talked about it with my child, and I see nothing wrong with it. I do see that there are gambling games, however, I believe it is the duty of the parent to teach kids what is right and wrong, not a website. Also, anyone who is caught breaking neopets rules, which include no scamming, posting links to other sites, hacking, cheating, swearing, or harassing. If the rules are broken, the person who did so will be either "Suspended" for a certain amount of hours or "frozen", meaning your account is deleted permanently. Your kid can Report others for breaking rules, and if a moderator spots anything, it WILL be acknowledged. Neopets may have some violent content, perhaps some gambling, but it is VERY child safe and I actually would WANT parents to have their kids play, it is safe, fun, educational, and kid friendly. It is a great site, and I hope other share my views.
