Good for teens.
Neopets used to be a perfect website for kids to play on. But recently Neopets have begun plastering ads in a lot of places. There are all sorts of ads that can get in your way. Ads that make noise, rollover ads that you can accidently click, ect. There was even an ad that gave me a virus! Neopets has also introduced "Neocash" that you have to buy with real money, and having Neocash gives you a large advantage. This site is not for little kids, as they may accidentally click the ads, but older kids understand what's an ad and what's not. It's an okay website.

Perfect website for anyone from ages 9 to 50
I have been playing neopets for the past three years and honestly, it is one of the best websites I have ever been on. You can make friends, chat, customize your pet/s, play learning games, set goals, and much more. On Neopets, I have made friends with people of many ages, across the WORLD. Safety is not a concern on this website, for there are message board monitors, as well as blocks; so you can't use curse words or sexual content. I have had a blast making new friends, it is a place to escape from the busy, everyday, real world...and relax to something cheerful, and wonderful. Overall, I believe Neopets is the perfect site for almost everyone.

Amazing site, perfect for most
A couple years ago, Addison found one of the olllllld Neopets plushies I got a few years ago from McDonald's, and insisted I look it up on the internet for her. (She wasn't very good at typing.) I did, and she fell in love with the site the first time she saw it. Addy quickly made an account, and created a wocky, one of the many species of Neopets. (Wockies look kind of like cartoon kitties.) Honestly, I'd say that the site is perfect for ages 8 - ... Well, you're never too old to have some fun! There are a lot of fun, active members, and the neomail system they have up is amazing. (Neomail is like an email system within the site.) There are about a thousand games - Literally. Most are educational in some way, and it's a very safe, child-friendly site. There are art and writing competitions, and it's a lot of fun to participate in these. (Addy loves the writing ones - She's always writing something or other!) She loves to dress up her pets with the wide variety of clothing available for them, and is extremely creative. (Her pets have been everything from rodeo clowns to Bugs Bunny to Brittany Spears!) I think it's a great site, and I would certainly create an account on Neopets if I had the time to actively play on it! I do, however, advise keeping your very young children off of this site - Some of the members are... Less than friendly, and sometimes they can use a bit of language I wouldn't allow Addy to use. Most of the members are at least twelve, but the older ones are generally very friendly to the younger ones, and the new players/players that have been on hiatus for a while. Overall, though, I love it and would recommend it to anyone!

Perfect for older kids, not those under 15.
I've been both a member and a parent of a member of this site and have to say, if you're over the age of 16 it's a great place to have fun, but if you're under the age of 16 it's not a great place to be if you use the message boards. I've dealt with bullying on a massive scale here, but it was fine as I'm an adult. My daughter; however, was destroyed by users on the message boards and the security team (the neopets team) did nothing to protect her and everything to protect the users who were attacking her and bullying her. These people all had aged accounts and seemed to be treated better than the newer members are. I tried speaking to support personnel (Charlotte) and was told that my daughter was at fault as she didn't ignore the taunts and harassment. I don't recommend this site to anyone who has kids under the age of 16.

Perfect For Learning About The Value of Money
My son, who is 5 years old, has an account and so do his friends. On this site, not only do they learn how to take care of a pet,but they learn about the value of money. They can have a bank account and make deposits, withdrawls, and collect interest.

What a Veteran neopets user thinks.
I haven't seen any of these yet so I'll post it. I am a veteran neopets player. I have been playing for over 3 years now. I will admit that Neopets has gone downhill since being sold to Viacom (a move that many of us "veterans" have yet to forgive Adam and Donna, the original creators, for doing) as many of the pop ups have gone from harmless cereal, toys r us, and other child appropriate ads to, as UR put it, more adult versions. Now I WILL say that originally neopets was NOT a childs' site. it was in fact set up for students in College and was originally a college final exam for the original creators Donna and Adam. This was stated by the fact that you were able to give your neopets "Neorona" and "Neowine" which have, a year before I joined, changed to "Neocola" and "Achiffi" two coke products. However even noting this I still don't like the change, it has become more of a money maker; with the instillment of items that must be bought by NeoCash (a form of currency bought with actual money instead of neopoints, a form of currency that can be generated by playing games) I will also admit that there ARE slot machines, poker and other games where you gamble, as well as a "Carnavel" with games like "Cork gun Gallery" and "Test your Strength" that are rigged (hm.... sounds like real life to me..) against the player. As for the Neoboards. There are a few boards that aren't very good for younger players because of the imbalanced amount of people who are nice vs. mean. These tend to be the following: Battledome, Help, Fanclubs, and other worlds. The Evil things and monster sightings and Virtupets are more of a depends on time and place thing. Neopets also allows you to form what are called "Guilds" think of those clubs you used to have in school. This is both good and bad for most people and the reasoning is you are making a club with complete strangers so I will suggest parents monitor their children when they join a guild, although nowadays there are guilds that are strictly 18+ and they hold that rule sternly. Other than that it is pretty good

Safe, fun, and educational
My daughter found Neopets a few years ago and has been playing it since. I have watched her play, and I have noticed many games on the site have math, reading, and even typing skills. Not being 13, she can't type basically anything, and has little access to the chats. Also, the fact you can buy things for your pet puts a child in a responsible position. The Pets may be made of pixels, but my daughter loves her pet as though it were a real pet, and makes sure it is fed, groomed, played with, and makes sure they are happy. Buying things teaches your kids to handle money, and you can only play every game three times per day. Making money isn't easy as playing games in real life, no, but your kid learns from the games as well as has fun. That's one of the most important things. THE most important would be safety, and that is not an issue. I have seen the site content, talked about it with my child, and I see nothing wrong with it. I do see that there are gambling games, however, I believe it is the duty of the parent to teach kids what is right and wrong, not a website. Also, anyone who is caught breaking neopets rules, which include no scamming, posting links to other sites, hacking, cheating, swearing, or harassing. If the rules are broken, the person who did so will be either "Suspended" for a certain amount of hours or "frozen", meaning your account is deleted permanently. Your kid can Report others for breaking rules, and if a moderator spots anything, it WILL be acknowledged. Neopets may have some violent content, perhaps some gambling, but it is VERY child safe and I actually would WANT parents to have their kids play, it is safe, fun, educational, and kid friendly. It is a great site, and I hope other share my views.

Not recommended for anyone over 13
The site is fun for kids under 13, because they won't be able to interact with other players through the mail or boards. This is a good thing in my opinion because players on the boards can be incredibly rude and clique-y, treating wealth/pets as status symbols and often ganging up on less experienced players. There is also a security risk due to scamming by cookie grabbers, which may extend outside of Neopets accounts and into real bank/email accounts. Lastly, customer service is laughably bad. Unless an account is well-established among the community, there is very little chance that it will be returned if frozen. In fact, there's very little chance that you'll even get a non-automated response.

Complicated site, but some good educational games and some fun to be had
It could be quite addictive if it wasnt such a messy looking complicated site. My son enjoys playing a couple of games on there but isnt overly into it. There is minimal interaction with other users - its not a chat site at all.

Great game for all ages teen through senior.
Neopets is a great website for anyone from young teens to older adults. My wife and I both actually play the game ourselves and have for years. Our young daughter enjoys it as well. My mother-in-law also plays daily and it quite the expert. She is over 60. I highly recommend Neopets and we have also found the site *allaboutneopets* to be very helpful for anyone who lays the game.

It use to be perfect.
Viacom killed what used to be a much better site than what it is today. And TNT is both unfair and overeacting and the adds are both disturbing and annoying. And newbies are treated like trash on neoboards by being called n00bs like the abusers never use to be newbies themselves. I'm 18 and personly like neo and been a member since 9 years old but now it's perverted by all the new stuff like the NC Mall where you have to use real money if you want your pet to look pretty. Neo has turned greedy by throwing their adds at you when back when I first joined it was a friendly site and adds were unheard of. And me and other users are upset with TNT suspending and freezing accounts even when nothing we did was wrong. TNT,take off your advertisements and lighten up!

Very Immature and cash oriented.
I wouldn't recommend Neopets since alot of content is based on the "my pet is better than yours" philosophy. There is no separation between adults and children on the site and the moderators tend to take action against whistle-blowers instead of offensive players. The site is clogged with promotional offers that could end up costing you money if your child happens to the miss the fine print. Its also very cash oriented, many things can be bought with NeoCash, which is bought with real money, instead of NeoPoints, which is earned through the game. (NeoCash is a recent addition, which is fairly sad.) There is another site, Subeta.net, which is nearly identical and a smaller following. The community is much more helpful and more accepting overall. I still wouldn't recommend these types of sites for children under 10.

Good for teens, iffy for tweens.
I have been using this website for quite literally eight years of my life- and I learned a lot from it. It can teach responsibility, but for me I really learned a lot about grammar and spelling. You can also learn about getting along with people. The site really takes off once you are old enough to interact with others. However.. the entire website has become flooded with advertisements and scams, which is why I think it is better for older kids who have enough experience to watch for these things. Inappropriate images and conduct isn't a problem, though, because those occurances are always and quickly spotted by staff members.

No Way
Does it concern you that childeren are being exposed to fake money that badly? Neopets seems very safe, my friends 5th grader loves to play on it and chat with her school friends on something like boards. 8 year olds is what I expect someone who is attracted to neopets should be. A 14 year old should NOT be playing such little kid things.
