I love ning
My friend created a site on there (I am also part of her staff), and we have a lot of fun connecting on there. You can post whatever you want on your own site, so it may be inappropriate if there are people you aren't comfortable with. If you create a site on there you can have a setting so you have to get an invite from one of the members to join.

Ning is Terrible and a Scam
Ning is a rip off. There are multiple people who claim Ning still charges them after they shut down their network. They had to go to the bank to stop payments. Ning has a better business bureau rating of F: *://sanjose.bbb.org/Business-Report/Ning-Inc-245024

Nice fan groups are really creative.
The site would never away your personal info, and the social Ning networks are really creative, such as "PengSpace" and "Wiglington & Wenks Party Network".
