What parents need to know

Parents need to know that although kids younger than 4 can probably use this site with some simple pointing and clicking, we don't recommend kids that young going online. Based on the WGBH TV show and seen on Discovery Kids, the site offers fun family activities for both online and offline play.

What's it about?

Preschoolers learn science concepts with Peep the newly hatched chick and his friends Chirp and Quack (a robin and a duck). Follow their adventures as they explore around their native pond and the "big wide world" beyond. There are 52 suggested activities to try at home, like "Guess What Floats?" and "Mixing Colors." Each activity offers a complete description plus recommended picture-book titles to read to young scientists. There are printables too, with coloring pages featuring each character.

Is it any good?

The five games are the best part. They include "Bunny Balance," in which players observe several rabbits of varying weights. The object is to place them on a seesaw and try to get the seats to balance. "Hide and Peep" is a memory game. And estimating distance is important in "Hop to It," where players must assist a frog as he hops across a pond.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about the role that science plays in our everyday lives, using activities on the site to introduce concepts like classification, measurement, and cause and effect. Families can also discuss how we use our five senses to gather information about our environment.

Great site for parents and kids
My two year old loves the interactive games. They make him laugh. He wakes up saying, "Peep." The activity articles are great. Overall a really terrific site.
