What Parents Need to Know
About Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Parents need to know that this is a grim, violent book. Deaths occur in nearly every chapter, and suspense, misery, and pain permeate much of the story. We know younger kids will want to (and probably will) read this wonderful end to the Potter series, but because of the heavy themes, we've rated it for age 12 and up.

Families Can Talk About
- Families can talk about the publishing phenomenon that is Harry Potter. Why has it been so successful? What makes it different from other books and series for children? Is it just hype, or something more? Also, what do you think about the way author Rowling ends the series? Are you satisfied? How is it different from what you expected? Do you wish anything was different? Do you understand the complex reasoning that leads to the denouement?

Lives in NebraskaI rate this title iffy for age 9 and give itGreat Book
I read this book in 2 days when I was just 10 years old, just to show how good it was. Lots of deaths, but most of them are bloodless except for Dobby, I expect, because he was stabbed by Bellatrix. Great friendship is displayed, although there are some arguments. There is some cussing, but most of it is mild. Great book, I recommend it to anyone 9+.
Lives in TexasI rate this title on for age 8 and give itMy favorite book ever!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the perfect book. It's sad, happy, funny, and this literally has got you sitting on the edge of your seat! It's informative and the best end possible for the series. Several characters die and it is definitely something you would cry about, but that only says how good a job J.K. Rowling did with making you connected with the characters.
