What's the Story?
There's not much to this funny and fast read -- just a boy trying to get his dad to put down his paper to read by being kind of obnoxious. For parents with a high tolerance for kids who get a little crazy, this book might become a favorite read-aloud, but parents should definitely flip through first to see if it's appropriate.
Is It Any Good?
This is a cute book that's certainly not destined to be a classic, but it's plenty funny for a rollicking read. It might work even better if parents want to trade lines with their kids or read it aloud in funny voices. Even the font is a little outrageous and will surely encourage kids to shout, "Guess what? CHICKEN BUTT!" Only problem? Parents might be hearing that line long after they've shut the pages of the book!
The illustrations are suitably comic with a wayward chicken bouncing between father and son. Again, nothing too fancy but totally suited to the punny prose.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about ways kids try to distract parents. Are there better ways to get attention? Is this boy's behavior OK by family rules or is it the kind of thing that might really get a parent's goat?
