Not pushing the envelope but includes "s--t," "a--hole," "hell," "God damn!," "Son of a bitch!"
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

One of the protagonists smokes a cigar.

What Parents Need to Know

This review of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was written by Marc Saltzman

Parents need to know that this game has plenty of shooting and cursing. That said, neither the violence nor the language pushes the envelope, but be aware there's frequent curse words (s--t, a--hole, God damn, son of a bitch, etc.) and you can shoot enemies -- who are human -- in the leg or arm or head (which will result in a different animation). When the player is shot, a blood red border fills the screen to tell the player death is near.

Families Can Talk About

Talk to your kids about the media in their life. We have more tools and tips that can help
  • Families can talk about whether Nate Drake, the protagonist, would be as cool if he didn't swear so often or if he tried to use non-violent approaches. He appears to be a scruffy, charming, and insubordinate treasure-hunter, so perhaps it fits his image, but would the game be as fun if it were rated "E" or "E10+" with less violence, swearing, and smoking?

More on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

What’s the Story?

UNCHARTED: DRAKE'S FORTUNE really gets going about two hours into the game, when agile treasure-hunter Nathan Drake and a female videographer crash land on a dangerous isle in search of the legendary El Dorado. This PS3 exclusive is played from a third-person perspective in which you control Nate as he swims rivers, jumps chasms, swings from vines, and exchanges fire with mercenaries -- all without losing his charm while trying to impress his reluctant sidekick, Elena Fisher.

Nate can duck for cover by tapping the O key on the controller, and then twist around to aim (L1) and fire (R1) at enemies using a variety of weapons. If you get shot too many times, the screen begins to fade to black and white with a red border, which means you better find cover before it's "game over." Fortunately, the auto-save feature does a great job at picking up where you left off. Along with exploration and combat, Nate must also be adept at puzzle-solving as he inches toward the fabled treasure.

Is It Any Good?

Despite some shimmery edges around parts of the environment, such as trees, the graphics are great, especially the fluid character animation and huge outdoor levels. Plus, every few minutes you will be treated to a short cinematic interlude to help push the story along. There are more than 100 minutes of these high-quality non-interactive sequences and they help add to the suspension of disbelief.

The high production values will attract you to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, but its tense gameplay will keep you glued to the TV. Armchair adventurers might feel a bit of deja vu with the many borrowed Tomb Raider -like elements, but you won't be disappointed with this polished and immersive single-player journey.

    Amazing game

I love this game it is amazing! This game is really fun, but kids under 12 probably shouldn't play it unless they are mature and don't get scared. The reason I say this is because it can get a little scary at times, and it is pretty bloody. There is quite a bit of cussing, but no F-words, and kids in fourth grade and up will hear worse language than what's in this game.

Great game (note this review has a spolier section so dont look if u dont want it spolied

I loved this game but it got a bit repetative (the scenary but it did look great). You kill alot of people by shooting, beating and "gernading" but there isnt much blood. SPOLIER there are zombies in the last couple of levels which arent that bad just to say but when a guy gets turned into one it ooks like he has no eyes. SPOLIERS ENDED the language isnt that bad either, s**t ba****d and son of a b"""h. Great game get it now im getting uncharted 2 now. :)

One of the best games of all time!

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is easily one best games I have ever played! There is violence through out the game but it's not gory, but blood does appear when you shoot a person. One character seems to always have a cigar hanging out of his mouth and there are about half a dozen mildly suggestive comments made during the game as well as the use of language such as s***, a**, h***, d***, g**d*** and both b-words. You also see a few decomposing bodies in videos. Overall a great game for older teens.

Amazing game with intense violence and some swearing

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was the first game I got when I got my PS3. After reading countless reviews on websites, and hype from friends, I was all excited to play it. Needless to say, I was blown away. I mean, having never had a "next- gen" console, the graphics were amazing. Everything was so detailed, and the environment was pretty. The gameplay was fantastic and intense, the story was interesting, and "Indy-Jones" sequences kept me back for more. However, this game is NOT, and I mean NOT for everyone. Even my dad said, "whoa, that's violent." The game focuses on gunplay, with a wide arrange of weaponry that increases as the game progresses. Blood is plainly shown when a character is shot. And, which may bug some people, the characters swear- a lot. Most of the time, it's because they're in sticky situations. Other times, it's just because they're angry. But hey, swearing is swearing. Words include "s---, g------, d---, b----, son of a b----" and possibly a few others. No f- bombs are dropped. Sullivan, a side character, smokes a cigar throughout the game, but the main character Nathan Drake constantly tells him that smoking is bad, for good measure. QUICK NOTE (with a tiny spoiler): Towards the end of the game, the entire story changes, and it becomes quite scary. If you don't have a good stomach or are scared easily, be ready for a wild ride. Overall, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is an amazing game, but shouldn't be played by young kids or those with a faint heart.

A very fun game. Has a lot of violence and swearing, and rightfully earned it's teen rating. Isn't over the top though, and you will enjoy it.

    good game for 12+

it was pretty good, but my dad made me turn it off after watching me play it for a few minutes. he took it away, hid it and said i could have it back when i was 12 or 13. but i understand why dad dosent like it-its bloody, has lots of bad words and if you havent noticed it is violent.

i really like it, but i have one thing to say-THIS IS NOT FOR ANYONE UNDER 15. that could even be for the language alone. i played it once, and they say about 4 bad words in the first 3 minutes. another issue is the violence. it is really violent, and the blood cant be turned off. the drinking drugs and smoking isnt too bad, but a guy smokes once. if you are not sure, play the uncharted 2 demo and expect something a little worse than that.

i like it but it has lots of blood, violence, and language. there is one smoking part, but its only for like a second. kids might be able to handle it if they mute it, but they say the directions so you wont know how to play.

    good for 13+

uncharted is a good game but it has some language.the launguage is'nt that bad juring gameplay but the cutseens can get a little rough.they say words like b!tch,d@mb,sh!t,and a$$.if you mute the cutseens the worse you'll here is a$$.thers a little blood in gameplay and a little in the cutseens.in one cutseen neer the begining of the game you enter a submarine and in the submarine theres a skelaton with bood on it and some blood on the floor.the game also gets a little scarry at the end when wierd human looking creatures that crawl on four legs attack you. the role modles and the messages are good and bad at te same time.it teaches you to never give up and nate(the main character)never gives up but he bends the rules to do it.over all its a good game for people 13+

It is a very fun game, but when you shoot someone blood splatter. When you walk up too them there is no blood. The game is not all shooting, but there is lots of puzzles and jumping of from ledge to ledge. When your hurt there is no blood but the screen loses its color until you found shelter and have healed.

I think this game is good for people who aren't allowed to play superb games like Resident Evil 5 and so on. I strongly suggest that parents start tuning in to the children's conversations with friends. I think this because of what your child plays... reflects on you. I fit is getting to their head... STOP LETTING THEM PLAY!!!

    Good for 10 and older!

Uncharted Drakes Fortune is the best game ever! You are this adventure named Nate and you can pilot a jet ski in one level. You can also use your journal as a reference to figure out the challenging puzzles. The action is great you can punch guys by pressing the square button. You can pick up there ammo after they are defeated.Your main weapon is the pistol. You are also able to pick up other weapons like the AK-47,Revolver,M4,Moss 12,and M40.Nate can swing across vines to reach a objective, you can climb rocks edges of cliffs and so on.You can also swim.Pressing the R2 button on your controller will show where Nate needs to go or primary objective. The game has quite a bit of light profanity and includes some violence and a little blood but no gore.

I had to convince my parents to get this game, but they were disappointed when they heard the language. You can never get through a cut scene or level without hearing s**t or god***n. This game is highly etertaining, but your character is a fortune seeking man who does not represent anything good, even though at the end he saves the world. But the methods of killing can brutal, like snapping an unsuspecting man's neck, or at the very end, tying a tall statue to a man's leg and throwing him off a ship. Again it's a very fun game, but not for kids under 11 or 12.

Uncharted a great adventure for anyone ten and up

Great game first of all but that does not mean it is ok for young kids and here is why. The main thing is the swearing there is several s words in the game along with pretty much all the other common swear words with the exception of no f words. There is also alot of shooting through out the game i would estimate by the time you are done you have shot at least three hundered people and each time you shoot some one there is a blood splatter but it does not stain the environment. But i feel any one age ten and up should be ok with this. It is a great edition to have on your ps3 but i wish it was not so violent. Also just to add i feel this should be rated t but when compared to game such as halo wich is M i think uncharted is at least as violent if not more violent then halo.
